1  KNITTING / Knitalongs / Fair Isle? Eh? on: April 10, 2015 03:39:55 PM
I'm gearing up to start my first fair isle pattern--yay!

Don't suppose anyone wants to take the plunge with me?  I'll be using the cowl pattern from I Can't Believe I'm Fair Isle Knitting, but any pattern would do for discussion of technique and whatnot, methinks.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Mega Sock Frustration on: April 10, 2015 03:37:29 PM
Hokai.  So.
I've been knitting for a lonnggg while, but was always intimidated by socks.  So I think to myself, "Self, it's time to make socks!"

I have tried 2 separate patterns (though both were toe-up patterns), and ran into the same problem--
The area where I picked up stitches for the heel turns out WICKED tight.  Ultimately, they are super comfy to wear once they're on, but an absolute nightmare to get on and off.  Gauge was spot-on, and I've tried blocking with a snazzy sock blocker.

Any ideas?
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Star Trek! Woop woop! on: March 23, 2015 05:01:50 PM
Alright, so hear me out.  I've been knitting for yearsss, and very recently ventured into the wonderful world of embroidery (which was both terrifying and glorious).  So.  My first dabble with embroidery has turned out as such.  Messy for sure, but I think there's hope ^_^

Anywho.  Start Trek Next Gen quotation.  And that may or may not be Vulcan calligraphy going down the side.  Yay!
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Pondering a Sweater...Any thoughts? on: September 27, 2013 09:58:22 AM
I'm looking to start a wee little sweater that has a pattern suggesting a fluffy mohair yarn.  However, I have a really nice merino/silk blend that I'm itching to use (and no mohair for that matter...), and I'm wondering if that is a viable substitution (same weight/ply/etc as suggested mohair).  I know the feel will be totally different, but I'm more concerned about merino/silk being too heavy for a mohair pattern....
Really what I'm saying is I'm not used to merino/silk blends, and don't want to make this sweater only to have it weigh 1,000 lbs and be terrible =P
Any opinions?
5  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / 'Ello, 'ello =) on: September 26, 2013 12:31:00 PM
Hey there, I just joined the craftster world after oogling at all the lovely projects for a while =)
My primary craft would be knitting (sooo much love), but I'm also rather fond of embroidery, and I dabble with crochet (nothing super fancy and awesome as of yet).
I also make soap and candles, scrapbook, and play around with whatever else seems fun at the time.  I spend arguably too much time on Pinterest and Ravelry, and have a pitbull that I'm madly in love with. =P
Hope to get to know some awesome people, and I'll 'see' you guys around!
xoxo
