31  Atomic boomerang barkcloth skirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Notamermaid on: June 17, 2005 06:38:06 AM
More reprodepot 50s fabric. Barkcloth is really hard to work with (frays really easily), but I finally finished it! Plus, this one is a little more work-appropriate than the strawberry dress (not that that'll stop me -fortunately, my boss is amused by my clothes, so as long as there's no clients or faculty, its all good)

32  Strawberry Dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Notamermaid on: June 16, 2005 03:31:20 PM
This is my first dress. I used a pattern for the bodice and then added a free-form full skirt. Unfortunately, although my measurements said I should be a 12/14, I made the size 12 bodice and it was HUGE, which was incredibly irritating. I had to take it in a LOT. Then I had to add a sash to cinch in the waist even more (I like cinched waists).

Fortunately, this was a practice dress with inexpensive fabric - the real one is going to be made out of this nice green silk.

I call it my strawberry hostess dress because its calm on the surface, working frantically underneath to stay afloat (you know, like the quote about hostesses and ducks!)

33  simple 50s skirt, fun 50s prints in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Notamermaid on: June 09, 2005 04:16:28 PM
These are two skirts I made, no pattern. My first projects in a looong time - I was inspired by 1) the fact that I need to stop shopping so much and 2) I found this website with great retro-50s fabrics. The first one has a pattern of couples in romantic situations (park benches, dinners out, little tiny shoe stores in the distance!) and the second one has kind of 50s squares and engagement rings (oddly, my boyfriend likes that one best).

I apologize for the URLs and non-visible-inserted pics - I used flickr, and that doesnt seem to work with the code.
