As I mentioned in my previous post, I'm pregnant. I'm also a cheap bastard, and hate to spend money on clothes, especially clothes I'll only be using for 4 more months. So, after years of lurking on t-shirt surgery and craftster and not actually making a whole heck of a lot, I've suddenly started sewing recons like a madwoman. My husband says he always thought that pregnant women "nesting" was a big bullshit cliche, but he's pretty sure I'm nesting like a motherfucker.
Anyway, here's what I finished today - a hoodie dress! Thank you, .75 t-shirt sale at my local thrift store:D
I'm super proud of this. It's the second most complicated thing I've ever made.
The hood and all the trimming is made from a green XL graphic tee. I think the hood is a little too tall, but I'm ok with it.
My main screwup is that it's very snug in the bust. I keep forgetting how uber huge my preggo boobs are now.
Anyway, that's it! I wish I'd thought to take pics in progress. It took me three days and a lot of screw ups, seam ripping, repositioning, and trial and error to make it. Hope you like it:D
I'm 5 months pregnant, and I'm at a point where most maternity pants are still too big for me, but I definitely can't fit into my jeans anymore. I remembered making yoga pants a couple years back from a oversize t-shirt, which was super easy. You can find the tutorial here: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=299282.0 I decided to make some sweet comfy pants with a belly band and a drawstring so I could adjust them as I grow.
The cicada applique is from a t-shirt my husband silkscreened with one of my prints. Makes me feel like these pants need a little green in them somewhere.
*UPDATE* Critters were a smashing success! They now live on the couch. I have got to find a pattern drafting tutorial. If I ever make these guys again, I want them to be round and fat. How does one learn to do such things???
My husband and I are coming up on our 1 year anniversary this Saturday. I bought him a gift, but I knew I had to make him something handmade, because, well, that's just what we do. And I know he's plotting and planning something to make me this week. For my birthday, he made me a Tenda plushie, one of the little guys from my favorite game, Earthbound. Lately, he's been obsessed with Cave Story, which is full of the most adorable sprites imaginable. He makes it too easy:D These are critters, the chubby little flying things with little white ears/wings/puffs/whatever. They look a bit like one of our cats. I'm definitely a noob at making plushies. If I ever try to make these again, I'd like them to be less like little pillows, and more round and fat. I just couldn't quite wrap my head around how to draft a proper pattern, so I went with flat shapes.
My original plan was to only make the critters, but then I saw THIS GUY. Goddamn, this game is full of cute shit. It's ridiculous. It was really hard to decide on just one or two things, really.
I made them from scrap fabric lying around, mostly furry fleece and old felted wool sweaters. I made them all in a 6 hour session while drinking lots of coffee.
If anyone else has played Cave Story and is better at plushie making, I hope you'll make some of these, or any of the other sprites, and post them and show me up! I didn't find nearly enough Cave Story plushies, and I pretty much trolled the entirety of the internet.
I'm a vendor at a festival next week, a fundraiser for the Kentuckiana Pug Rescue. Every time I sell my ceramic mugs there (I've been to a few of their events), people ask if I make dog bowls, so I finally made a bunch for the next event. Now I have no idea how to price them. They're all porcelain, handthrown on the wheel, and each bowl probably takes an hour from start to finish, not including firing time. I see people selling handpainted bowls for $60 or more online, but I'm afraid people will balk at prices like that. This might be a moot point with the economy the way it is, but I'm hoping to sell at least a couple, and to charge a fair price while still making a profit for my time and effort.
Also, I considered bringing some unfired blank bowls in case anyone was interested in custom work, which I could hand paint right there while they watch. Does this sound like a good idea?

I just had my wedding on June 26th, I'm still flipping out over it. It was a thoroughly AWESOME day. I even had friends fly in from freakin' CHINA.
So, my husband and I tossed most traditions, got one of my weird artist friends to officiate (we were already legally married at the court house in December), and made almost everything ourselves with the help of friends and family. It was a super laid back, colorful, wonderful evening out in Eagle Creek Park, and the best thing was hearing from friends and relatives that it was the best wedding they'd ever been to:) Yay for crafty artsy weddings!
My husband and I just had our wedding on June 26th. I'm an artist, and he's a craft and fashion loving punk, so we tried to do as much as we could ourselves so everything would be meaningful to us, fun, and within our budget (we're also college students, and pretty broke). We got most of our inspiration from the internet - craftster, offbeatbride, indiebride, etc, with lots of suggestions and last minute help from artist and musician friends. It all basically turned out kick ass, and we've been told repeatedly that it was the best wedding our friends and family have ever been to:D So I just have to share the things we and my friends made. Here's the pics!
The front and back of our wedding invites - I drew them myself with brush and ink, and we had them printed at kinkos on 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock. We scoured old sci-fi comics, Japanese monster movie posters, and awesome rock posters for ideas. We decided we liked the idea of being a 50 ft couple stomping through the city, chasing after the movie monsters. The back has lanterns (he proposed and first asked me out at the summer lantern festival) and octopus tentacles, because we both love sea creatures and regularly geek out on wikipedia reading about random animals. This was our save the date card, we saw some photobooth STD cards on flickr and loved the idea. Here is my wedding dress. This is the first real item of clothing I've ever made! I was super excited about it. The fabric has a print of little orange squids all over it. I knew I wanted something simple and comfortable that I could wear an awesome petticoat under. I used Pink Hickey's Dragon Dress tutorial http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=252249.0, which was super easy to follow and turned out awesome, though I did make the skirt a full circle skirt instead. The wedding cake! My friend from class made it for us, based on our invitation. It was soooo delicious too, chocolate with whipped raspberry mousse filling. I didn't get to see it until the day of the wedding, so it was a surprise. I think it's the best cake ever:D My friend Debbie made the cake topper. I love how the horns are poking through the top hat, and the bride looks like she's gonna eat him. And the fact that she went crazy with all the stereotypical bridal jazz, white satin and pearls and hearts! It was also too big for the cake, lol, so it sat next to it looking fabulous anyway. We kept up with the whole lantern theme, using mason jar lanterns instead of bridesmaid's bouquets, and hung tiny jars with candles and paper lanterns from the trees, as well as sitting on the tables.
Finally, since I'm a ceramic artist, I made porcelain mugs for the bridal party as gifts, a jar for the gift table for people to put secret notes to us they'd written, and bathroom tile coasters as place settings and favors for the wedding.

Hey guys, this is not only my first plushie, but the first thing I've ever posted on craftster. It may even be the first craft I've ever actually finished.
So, I have this spunky little kitten that we initially called Fifi (for the white stripe on her back), but she lost an eye to a upper respiratory infection. She's so adorable and fierce that we called her Zombie Cat because of her zombie eye (people think this is mean, but it's completely a term of endearment. Zombie Cat is the fiercest, most awesome cat ever!) Anyway, to make a long story short, I made a Zombie Cat plushie with a pirate eye patch;) Zombie Cat totally approves of this.
