Class/Challenge/House Pride: Arithmancy
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Elemental Necklace
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: For my Arithmancy I managed to conjure up something representing the four elements. Green for earth, blue for water, white for air, red for fire. Hopefully it can help protect me from this atrocious Midwest weather, yeck!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Herbology
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Chaos Wand
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: This fits the classification of something to help protect me from the whomping willows branches. What you see is a wand crafted from an old knitting needle, wrapped with bits of fabric, wire, and beads.
While daydreaming in Herbology, I was trying to come up with something to help me gain access to the room beneath the whomping willow. I kept coming back to the one word, 'chaos'. That tree would kill me before letting me get in the room below it. But I was determined to finally see it for myself. So I crafted up a wand just as chaotic as that darn tree. Bits and scraps of torn clothing from the four Marauder's themselves that I've cunningly acquired, as well as scraps of clothes from those I hold dear. Add in a few magical stones and beads and wah lah! I'll see what's in that room even if it kills me...!
Project Picture:

edit: It appears everything is sideways! Sorry about that! It appears my regular wand may need some tweaking...

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Flying
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Nest-lace
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.) This project was to be something you might find while out practicing your flying! Well obviously, this is a nest-lace; a birds nest turned necklace! I finger-knitted a hemp necklace and then weaved in some fabric scraps (like a bird would weave grasses and bits into it's nest).
Project Picture:
Feel free to also include your house and any storycrafting you've created for your project.
I'm not very good at flying yet and as it turns out I ran smack dab into a TREE! When I finally managed to land, everyone else in class was hysterical with laughter there was a bird's nest in my hair! I couldn't really fix it for the birds, so I fashioned it into a lovely necklace Smiley

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Detention in the Dungeons
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Quilted purse
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.) This project was supposed to be a completion of a WIP and I had started this purse a week or two ago and never got back to finishing it (other school work got in the way!). This is the first thing I've ever quilted in my life. Not to mention I haven't really sewn in since 8th grade (roughly 12 years ago). I had to rip out the stitching on the one side I had finished, take the strap off completely, and then redo everything! The closing strap (with buttonhole) isn't perfect, but for my first time I'd say it's pretty good.

Question: Can we only submit one (for credit) per detention challenge?

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Handmade Journal
Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques/recipe used, any fun tips, etc.) For CoMC we were to craft something that reflects a personal struggle or helps one cope during difficult times. Something that always helps me cope is writing, so I decided to make a new journal. This isn't my first time making a book but this time I used a different stitch (long stitch opposed to coptic). The hardest part of this was getting my spells worked out right to keep the dang stitching straight on the cover pieces. I'm not really sure what the fabrics are I got them (and a ton more) at a thrift store. I didn't really follow any type of pattern, I just made up the measurements as I went along(with my boyfriends help of course). A tip do not try fabric cutting charms when you're tired! You'll end up with a big shredded mess Smiley I mean't to take more pictures along the way but I got completely caught up in finishing it, I'm sure you all know how that goes!

P.S. Don't mind my white legs in some of those pictures! Oops Smiley

7  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Re: coptic stitch sketch book on: September 08, 2013 10:52:33 AM
This is beautiful! I've made quite a few hand bound books, I always have trouble keeping the stitches tight and then my book is loose when I finish. I just recently tried a longstitch book binding technique which I think is a bit easier to keep the stitches tight.

My first project, woohoo!!

OWL Subject & Option(if available): Charms (craft something that opens or has an opening)
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Quilted school bag
Brief Description: For this project I'm going to be making my sister a quilted school bag for college (and her 18th birthday). This bag is going to be BIG!, and have a lot of pockets since she's going to school for nursing and carries a lot of junk. I'm not exactly sure which fabric I'll be using as she's kind of picky, but I plan to go and check out fabrics & threads this coming weekend (7th). I don't technically have to be done with this project until her birthday in November, but I'd like to have it finished by Halloween.
