11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Wonderland Box (image heavy) on: April 11, 2010 04:18:48 PM
I made this box for my partner in the Alice in Wonderland Swap.

I'm including photos for the process of getting this damaged diamond look.  I started with a pine box from Michaels.  I taped the area where the top and bottom meet when closed and then I painted a layer of white gesso.

Next I rubbed the outside of the box with black acrylic paint and a cotton ball.  After that dries I then use a flat craft stick to smear gold acrylic paint.  My paint is very old and clumpy but it works really well when used like this.

Next I used gold pearl ex powder

Then I found spots that looked grey not black or gold so I painted (using a brush this time red paint and after this layered was dry.  I mixed black and red together to make a crimson color.  I put down my diamond stencil and covered the stencil with crimson.

After removing the stencil I take a rubber stamp covered lightly with gold paint and lay it gently on top.  if there isn't a clean image that's okay.  After this has dried I sand the whole thing very gently.

Lastly I use a layer of brown watercolor paint to add an antique look where paint is removed down to the first layer of gesso.

Before adding the letters with tacky tape and the sticker of the key hole I let the box set overnight and dust the top with a clean cloth.

12  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Red Poof on: March 23, 2010 06:36:07 AM
I found directions for these...I don't know what to call them, poofs online and tried them out last night.  I think I will be making a ton of them for an AIDS task force fundraiser in May.  Do you like them hanging or as a table decoration?

13  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Artist Trading Cards (ATCs) / First ATCs on: February 11, 2010 07:32:28 AM
It took me nearly 2 years to finish this set.  I thought ATC's would be easy because I'm always making cards and altered paper projects but I couldn't finish the last two cards!  It was driving me crazy.  I was going with a Queen theme and had a ton of Christmas stamps (think Mary as the Queen of Heaven) but no matter what I couldn't get my victorian lady and right.  Finally I'm happy with them and I've learned a lesson - just because you are working small doesn't mean it's going to be easy.

Now I guess it's time to try inchies.
14  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Encaustic on: February 10, 2010 08:42:45 AM
I finished the painting of this little encaustic but then I ran out of the clarified wax I need to give it a finished, protective coat.  But until I get more of the wax this is the pretty much the final work.  It's from a picture I took of the Sacre Coeur in Paris.  Sorry about the glare.

It's pretty small

15  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Encaustic on: August 03, 2009 06:37:36 AM
This is my first encaustic.  It's 8 x 8 and I mixed the "paint" myself with beeswax and oil paint.  I just hope I haven't been breathing in all sorts of toxic fumes as I've been working.

16  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Antoinette Paper Doll on: July 23, 2009 01:38:10 PM
I made this pictures for a Swap I did last month and since my partner received I think it's okay to share it with the paper gang.

I made the paper doll from a dover design (costume clip art) collection and then mounted it on a canvas I coved with gel medium and stamped into.  I found the cake stickers in a wedding scrapbooking collection and colored them with markers.  The finished picture is 9 X 12 inches.  I'm really happy with it.
