1  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Laughter Around the World Quilt ideas? on: September 24, 2006 09:06:51 AM
Hey guys, first let me start out by saying that I totally respect and love all the work that you create! I'll try not to be obnoxious about asking you all for ideas since it's my project, thus my responsibility.
Ok, so here's the deal. At my school district everyone in the Centers for Advanced Studies (honors classes, basically) has to complete a Long Term Project. I have chosen World Cultures class for mine since I'd have the most leeway with it (my other classes are Chemistry and Spanish.. not happening). I decided after much deliberation to make a quilt because I've never done it before, and make the topic laughter around the world. So here's where I hit a snag: Since I need to have this done by January, should I quilt the whole thing or do appliques of stuff? I'd like to throw in some embroidery too, which I've done in the past to other things I've sewn so it wouldn't be so much of a headache. I might just quilt the border and then do appliques... but I'm not sure. Do you experienced quilters have a preference? Also, what makes you guys laugh? I'm already thinking of incorporating laughter clubs from India somewhere in there.. and of course the famed banana peel.  Grin
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / hero in a box on: June 22, 2005 12:17:58 PM
so im trying to make this birthday present for my friend, and we both love watching stupid heroic movies together and making fun of them. Because of this, i decided to make "Hero In a Box", and so far the things i've thought of to put in it are: a. A burned cd of "heroic music", b. a "comic book" of herself doing heroic things like rescueing a busload of children from impending doom, or something, c. a t-shirt (one of my ideas was for it to say HERO on the front, then on the back "Faithfully rescueing civilians from crime and destruction since 1990", and c. maybe like a cardgame/puzzle/mystery thing?? I guess my question is, do you guys have any suggestions of stuff to add, or alter or whatever???

4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Father's Day / Father's Day Fiasco on: June 05, 2005 06:00:25 PM
I need to figure out some interesting present that I can make for my dad by father's day. He likes country music, model airplanes, and dancing (lol, we were in a father/daughter dance class. it was hilarious to watch all these middle aged guys attempting to shimmy). He's not to into fishing or hunting or whatever the typical dad-gift topics are. thanks!!
