1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday May 16th 2008 on: May 17, 2008 09:02:55 AM
This yarn started out as half a Travelling Rhino Club batt ("Burst of Sunshine"), a mystery Loop baby-cake batt, a chunk of undyed roving and a chunk of super shiny silver bamboo.

My intention was the create a progression yarn based on the end of the Doctor Who episode Gridlock (when the motorway opens and everyone flies off into the dawn). But I don't have that episode on DVD and having checked online (after making the yarn) it appears my brain has combined that scene in Gridlock with the bit in the movie Equilibrium where Preston pulls the coating off the window and watches the sunrise. Hence the title "Gridlock Over New New Libria".

When knitted the yarn will progress from being mostly white with slivers of yellow and orange; down to being mostly yellow and orange with some red and some white; down to being mostly orange and red with some grey; and ending mostly grey and silver with bits of orange.

I spun this last friday but forgot to post it. This is my April Spontaneous Batt from Loop-

"Passiflora Caerulea" 120yards of merino, bamboo, alpaca, silk noil, cotswold locks and lots of angelina.

Jadzy - I chose summer for the May batt too!

Jazzturtle- Those yarns spun from the Loop spontaneous batts are just glorious! I love the one with the money especially.

Artsygirl- the yarn you spun up from the Chocolate Liquor batt is amazing! I doubt I could ever spin that fine!

I only have the one this week, this is 'Time Vortex One' spun from Loop's Indigo Inspiration batt.

117yards of fingering weight (both a yardage and wieght record for me) that took weeks to spin on my drop spindle. And thats only from 1.5ounces! I have half the batt yet to spin.

But I don't want to spin any more of that since I have this beautiful spontaneous batt staring at me, waiting to be spun. Its Sweeney Todd in batt form!

Thanks guys.

Astica, I got my Sonic Screwdriver from Asda (part of the Wal*mart "family") in England but I'm sure they're available online. The sonic bit is a UV light and the other end has a UV pen in it so you can write secret messages. I am easily amused :p

I think I've spent too long on Ravelry, it almost didn't occur to me to post this here.

This is my version of Snuffykin's awesome Tenth Doctor Who Pattern. He has no mouth yet cos I'm out of pale pink but otherwise he's done. Can't wait to start on the other characters.
