1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: What would you knit with this yarn? on: January 22, 2007 04:04:16 PM
Thanks for the suggestions - it doesn't really list gauge &  I haven't done a swatch.  i'd say it's a light DK?  it's like med weight sock yarn is how I would describe it.  And it is super soft.

I posted a picture on my blog - I need some help deciding what to do with yarn in my stash.  I'm going to be doing this pretty often if you are opinionated - come on over!  I love to here ideas from different places.  I get in a "rut" with my knitting friends - we tend to have some incest going on with patterns.

TIA!
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Where do you meet to knit? on: December 08, 2006 02:25:07 PM
;DI'm laughing because it's a "warm" 28 degrees today - and on the flip side it gets to 110, neither of which are park weather.  I always laugh that there are about 10 days a year that I wished I owned a convertible.  Otherwise I need air or heat!

I love the library idea.  Keep em coming.
4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Where do you meet to knit? on: December 08, 2006 01:54:44 PM
My group is kind of looking into a new place to meet to knit.  There are a bunch of us (20-30 sometimes) & we currently meet at a coffee shop, but some of us have decided it's too dark & the vibe has changed recently....for whatever reason we are looking for a change.  So I was thinking I could get some good ideas for venues from here - not specifically for my city (dallas area) but in general.  Ideas?

We have thrown around:
other coffee shops - but there are space issues in most
hotels (which i think are resistent to a group unless we purchase stuff from their bars?) or why else would they let us?
Malls - we have several with cushy seatin areas - but would that be weird?

For those of you who used SWS & the Caron Shadows - how many skeins did you use?  I really think I need to do one with the SWS - i just made a hat with it - I love it.

Knitwit - which patterns is yours?  Inquiring minds want to know...

I'm so glad to see such a great issue.  I am not a sock knitter but I do love to look at them & many of my knitting buds are so I am always interested in those patterns - those socks knit flat & sewn are genius even if they are cheating just a little (which I love).  but all of the patterns are nice this go round.  Generally I end up not knitting anything out of the current issue but going back later & falling in love with something.  For example, now I'm about to start on the sock monkey hats as gifts for my nieces & I just bought some yummy cashmere to make Fetching.  Then this morning I found myself hooked on Carpathia - I hadn't really considered knitting any of them until now.

Plus I'm currently knitting a sweater from an issue several years ago (Sonnet).  Oh how I love Knitty....

7  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: best baby blanket yarn ever? on: August 24, 2006 08:47:01 AM
My new favorite is Bernat Cottontots.  It is a dream to work with, washes well, and is what I'll use for future baby blankets.  A girl in my group held 2 strands together & it was beautiful & so soft.

Not terribly cheap, but you can get the Michaels / Joanns coupons & buy them a few at a time to build up your inventory of it.
8  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Help finding hair scarf / headband pattern... on: August 22, 2006 07:10:33 AM
I think from the "fabric hanging down" description maybe this is what you are looking for:
Dream Swatch Knit Along

Here are a couple in the completed Projects pages also:
Dream Swatch and Dream Swatch again

Link to the pattern is in the knitalong.

This is the one I was thinking of - thank you all for your help!

9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Help finding hair scarf / headband pattern... on: August 21, 2006 10:04:47 PM
I am looking for a thread on a hair scarf that I saw a few weeks ago.  I searched every possible combination of words I could think of but I guess I'm not right because I can not find it for the life of me.  It was a skinny scarf that had a lace or weave type pattern to it that you use to tie at the neck, like a headband, only not.  Does that make sense?  It's not the panta or other headband things I've found that are sewn together at the ends, it have material that hangs down - looks like it ties maybe?

Please help - I'm trying to find it for a friend & I could've sworn I bookmarked it, but I guess not.

TIA

I am not a smoker but kudos to all of you on this path.  I really admire you all for giving it a try.   Your body will thank you - damn, and you may end up with a sweater or something!!!!   Grin  cheers.
