1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Jane Neighbors Reversible Two Color Knitting on: November 08, 2007 12:32:01 PM
I've been wanting to make a houndstooth scarf as a birthday gift but a pattern that employs double knitting just won't happen soon enough.  I found this scarf thanks to google:

Unfortunately the book cited is out of print!  But it's the perfect scarf!  Looks like people holding the book know it's out of print too--nothing under $80 on amazon, not on ebay at all, not even at the local library.

Anyone able to help?  I've done a little bit of mosaic knitting but not enough to figure out the houndstooths pattern myself.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Blonde on Blonde Scarf on: October 06, 2007 09:30:06 AM

I've got a friend who's a big dylan fan and he bears an uncanny resemblance to dylan so I was thinking the Blonde on Blonde scarf would be a great gift...any suggetions on what this pattern might be?

It looks easy enough...but I'm not really sure what it is?   It's tough to say if it's same front and back or if it's solid stripes on one side and spots on the other?
3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Double Knit Om Scarf on: August 14, 2007 07:47:36 PM
Finished this a while back but haven't had a chance to wear it yet...

I took two of Craftster's favorites, The Double Knit Star Scarf:

and the Om Scarf:

Two skeins of Wool-Ease later I got this:

4  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Softening Acrylic? on: July 26, 2007 12:51:54 PM
I'm going to make an afghan as a wedding present for some friends, I found a great pattern that I love...trouble is, it was only available as a kit, the kit only came with 100% acrylic yarn, it was super cheap and it shows ($30 for 16 skeins of yarn and the pattern).  In the ball, it's not too scratchy, but knit up, it's even less soft.

Anyone have luck softening up cheap acrylic?   I've heard suggestions of washing with heavy doses of fabric softener but I haven't heard from anyone who's personally done it and had good results.

I might go that route or I could just buy something else, I like the idea of acrylic being washable, especially in a pet friendly house, but...who wants a scratchy blanket?
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Rainbow Hat on: February 22, 2007 08:12:10 AM
Nothing complex, just a basic purl ridge hat in rainbow colors!

It's for a friend but I really want to keep it!

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Garter Lace Headband on: January 30, 2007 04:04:31 PM
I was not at all planning to enter the challenge but some last minute inspiration and one lost Panta made it happen.  I was very sad after I lost my Panta, then I saw the popularity of Knitty's Calorimetry, then I saw One Stitch Challenge entries being posted and POOF!  Inspiration happened...it took a couple tries to get a headband I was happy with and it still will never replace my lost Panta but here it is...

I went outside for natural light...I forgot I'd have to deal with the wind too...

The pattern is short row shaped like Calorimetry but of course gauge, weight of the yarn and needle size were adjusted significantly.  It was a super easy knit, took just over an hour, I definitely see more short row headbands in my future!
7  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Rebel Alliance Hat on: January 02, 2007 08:18:03 AM

A christmas gift for a friend...it was so exciting when he opened it and recognized the logo right away!  and it's glow in the dark!

Here's the chart I found on the web...

8  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Easy Christmas Baby Booties on: December 11, 2006 06:13:02 PM
These booties:

From this book:

The 'Lettuce-Edge Booties'

Super easy done in a short evening in front of the tv.  Done flat and seamed! Doesn't get any easier!
9  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Elvis Wig!? on: September 15, 2006 01:41:25 PM

Has anyone made this?

I'm thinking about Halloween Smiley

It looks like the suggested yarns (Sirdar) are discontinued, and I can't find any good close up sorta pics, and the needle sizes are a bit confusing, 5 mm (UK5)  and 6 mm (UK3)

But the chart I'm looking at shows 5 mm is really UK6 and 6 mm is UK4?

So much confusion already  Huh
10  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / Sparkle Hat on: August 01, 2006 08:26:51 AM

I bought the sparkles at least two years ago...and this weekend, I finally got around to using them!

I didn't put as many as the pattern called for, and using manos del uruguay it's a bit large, I'm thinking about felting it a bit but I'm not sure how the sparkles will handle it...
