1  Our Wedding Favors - Celtic dragon soaps in Weddings and Bridal Showers by hecate on: October 19, 2009 07:42:42 PM
I'm so excited, this is the first craft project for the wedding that I've actually gotten one completely finished of. I've got all the invitations folded and everything, but nothing printed yet, so I probably should be working on those. Anyways, I bought the mold on e-bay, It's a milky way soap mold (they have lots of cool designs). I made the labels myself using a free celtic font from www.dafont.com (think that's the right URL, could be wrong) and some claddagh pictures I found on google. I was going to put them in boxes, but the favor boxes were kind of pricey and I was trying to keep costs as low as possible, because we're also making a donation to The Wounded Warrior Project for each guest, so we got tulle circles at Hobby Lobby for $5 for 100 and then the ribbon was like $1.49 for a 7 yard roll. The pictures were made using my webcam so they aren't all that great, but I was so excited I just had to post it!

2  Hello Kitty Ballerina Cake in Dessert by hecate on: July 27, 2009 07:24:53 AM
I decided last minute I wanted to make a cake for my friend for when we went out Saturday night to celebrate her birthday. She has been a dancer all her life, but her favorite has always been ballet. She also likes hello kitty, so I found this picture of hello kitty in a tutu and free-handed the design onto the cake using a toothpick. Then I went over it in black icing, filled in the inside with the different colors, and outlined it in black icing again. Added some sprinkles to the tutu and bow as a final touch. So what do you think?

3  You can't have your cake and eat it too! in Completed Projects by hecate on: July 04, 2009 09:26:19 AM
Sorry, I couldn't help it. Had to use that phrase as the title.  Cheesy

So here's the story:

My fiance and I have been together for almost 6 years now, and every year since his 17th birthday I have made him a birthday cake. Well, now he's in the Army and is currently serving overseas in Iraq. When we were talking over the phone he was giving me a hard time about not making him a birthday cake this year. We like to give each other a hard time and joke around with each other constantly, but it really bothered me that I couldn't make him a cake like I'd always done. So after I got done crying over it (LOL) I was like, "wait a minute, I CAN make him a cake!".

So I went to Hobby Lobby, got a round box and some felt and then came home and got my glue gun out! I really wanted to do felt or foam letters on there too, but I was running low on time and had to get the letters from wal-mart so they didn't have much of a selection and I ended up getting the stickers. I was also going to attach number candles with velcro, but the adhesive side of the velcro circles did NOT want to stick to the wax, and then I accidently broke one of the candles, and I ran out of time, so I'm like "oh well".

Anyways, here's the finished project. I put his scooby doo pajama pants in there and the little card that says "You can't have your cake and eat it too!" hehehehe. I just couldn't help myself.
(Oh, BTW He's military police, and the cross pistols are the military police symbol, so that's why I put those on there.

4  Diaper Cake in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by hecate on: January 07, 2008 10:11:04 PM
This is the second time I've made a diaper cake. I usually make homemade gifts for people, but this is for a co-worker and I didn't have a whole lot of time to do it, so I bought some diapers, some baby stuff, and I already had the ribbon. It only cost me about $13 to make, but I think it turned out looking better than the first one I did.

The roses on the side are washclothes. It's 22 diapers, 3 washcloths, a rattle, a little teething ring toy, a bib, booties, and a onesie.

I am going to try to start selling them, so having another picture to show people will hopefully help. And maybe after everyone at the suprise baby shower sees it they might want to buy one.  Wink

5  Cakes I've made and decorated (pic heavy) in Recipes and Cooking Tips by hecate on: July 27, 2005 12:38:26 AM
Just a few of cakes I've decorated. Really wish I could find the Emily Strange cake I made, I drew on the picture of Emily Strange and her cat, and it is the best cake I've ever done, but my disk is lost. Cry
Oh well, here are a couple, one I did for my Aunt's baby shower (the baby is now 9 months old, so it's been a while) and the other one was like for my grandmother's 73 birthday I think (which has been 3 to 4 years)

BTW, The booties are made out of cupcakes. I messed up on the laces on one, which bugged the crap out of me, but I didn't have time to scrape the icing off and redo it.

And my boyfriend's successful birthday cake for his 17th birthday:

And the unsuccessful one (posted in stitch n botch also, but just thought I'd share  with all my other cakes)

6  A Ducky Disaster in Stitch And BOTCH by hecate on: July 10, 2005 11:06:26 PM
Okay, I've made a cake from this ducky pan I have for two years in a row now. And I've made and decorated at least 10 cakes before this, so I'm not inexperienced, I'm pretty good at doing this. But the second ducky cake...went terribly wrong. Let me just say, that coconut pecan icing that is used on german chocolate cake, does NOT harden the way the sugary white icing you make does. It flows off and pools around your cake in a sloppy mess. Angry  And I should've known this, but I didn't. It was for my boyfriend 18th birthday, and luckily this year this cake was not supposed to make an appearance at a party like the one last year. If it had've been, I would've been making a new cake, and letting him eat that one where people could not see it. My boyfriend thought it was pretty funny, although he was a bit dissapointed he couldn't cut the head off like last year. Anyways, here's the cake from last year, and then the 'ducky disaster' cake from this year.

17th birthday cake. Came out okay, didn't it?

And now, this year...(I just stuck the candles everywhere for the hell of it. I mean, it already looked bad, so I figure why not see if we can make it look worse? So 18 candles completed the catestrophy!)

And the birthday boy with his "cake"...

I'm very lucky my boyfriend has a sense of humor, because I was ready to cry when it came out like this.

7  Diaper Cake and real cake I made in Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies by hecate on: July 10, 2005 10:55:36 PM
Just thought I'd share these. I made these for my Aunt's baby shower. Everyone really seemed to love them. The diaper cake was actually fun to make and wasn't that hard. I forget the website that I originally saw it on, but a lot of people seem to be doing them now.

I used 3 cupcakes to make the booties that are on the cake.
