2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Best way to seal photo paper onto ceramic tiles to be used as coasters on: July 04, 2013 12:33:06 AM
Hello. I would so appreciate if anyone could give me advice on how to best seal photo paper onto ceramic tile for end use as a coaster. It's pretty difficult to source Mod Podge where I live. I use ink jet on photo paper, then use a fixative to set the ink. Then I glue on the photo paper to ceramic tile with acid free glue, or non-toxic school glue. I've tried to use finish off the surface with acrylic epoxy spray paint (clear lacquer) but that finish seems thin. I've also tried brush-on acrylic sealer on the surface of the photo paper as well as around the sides where the edges meet. It's a bit heavier than the spray paint when applied but sometimes condensation from glass still gets through - especially at the edges where the photo paper edges meet the ceramic tile.

Any other recommendations as to what I can use to seal photo paper onto the ceramic tile AND keep out moisture from seeping in underneath or on top of the photo paper?
3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / Modge Podge Alternatives for photographs on: June 11, 2013 03:55:05 AM
Hi,

I'm based in the Philippines and it is quite difficult to find a consistent supply of Modge Podge over here. I am looking for alternatives....

I need to an adhesive that can be safely used with photos printed on Epson ink jet photo papers (semi-gloss or matte finish). I also need a sealer for the surface of the photo (which is fixed after printing with Grumbacher's Matte Fixative). Elmer's all-purpose glue and Elmer's School Glue Gel (non-toxic) are the easily available glues/adhesives over here. Can I use these - especially the School Glue Gel w/c is clear and non-toxic) as the adhesive for the photos?

I am gluing the photo papers onto ceramic tiles.  What would be the long-term effects of these types of adhesives if used on on the photo paper printed with ink jet?

A link to a sample photo tile is here:

Thanks. I hope someone out there can help me with some photo-safe alternatives.

Cheers....
