51  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / British vs American terms on: September 19, 2005 10:22:12 AM
I get the impression that crochet terms are different for Brits and Americans, is this true?? If so, is there a list anywhere of what each country calls the various terms??

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, I've done several searches and can't seem to find any info!

Thank you! xx
52  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Help! my garden wall is ugly! on: August 28, 2005 02:43:02 AM
I have a tiny garden, with an ugly wall in it:
It gets covered in weeds (which I de-weeded yesterday) which is annoying, and I'm seriously not a gardening type person, so I'm looking for ideas on how to cover it up in a way which won't be too expensive and won't need lots of upkeep.

Edited to say: The picture is quite small, so it might be difficult to see, but it's a stepped wall made from stones covered in chicken wire.
53  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Rowan "beau" caplet & a Ruffle scarf on: August 19, 2005 03:10:09 PM
I've been experimenting with the different ways of knitting a ruffle, and I knit this scarf this afternoon.  I used bamboo needles (well, needle - a circ) for the first time - veeery nice! It's knit in rowan chunky print.  What do you think?

I knit this caplet on holiday last week:

It's knit on 20mm needles which was FUN!  Grin
I love this caplet so much I can hardly bear to take it off, but we're having some unusually hot days at the moment here in the UK... Roll Eyes
54  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / What can I make this into? on: August 18, 2005 12:11:58 PM
I sewed all sorts of crap onto these pieces of fabric ages ago and now I don't know what to do with them.

I thought about making them into pictures or cushions, but that would be tedious.  I also thought about making them into a corset, which I think would look nice, but I can't be bothered.

Obviously someone has already voted for "cat bed/toy"

What do you think?
55  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / knit alien face-hugger *Yay! I finished it!!* on: August 18, 2005 12:03:13 PM
I want to knit a face hugger from the film "Alien" for my husband's birthday, but I'm having trouble thinking how to get the curved shape.  I've thought about using a textured stitch to make it more urrm... realistic  Embarrassed and I thought I'd put pipe cleaners in the legs to make them bendable, but how do you knit a curve? I can do decreasing and increasing, but that seems to give quite angular shapes.   Huh
