41  My Infinite (...ly annoying) dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by kinkyknit on: July 25, 2006 11:02:10 AM
I LOVED this beautiful dress:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=102791.0
And I reeeally wanted to make one, so I bought some fabric (which cost 1.55, so a bargain) and tried.

Well, I never did find a way to make my serger work on this fabric, so I just sewed it with zig zag stitch and left the edges raw.
Anyway, here is the (sort of) finished product, hastily tied on dressform:

...but even though I measured my waist, the hole I cut in the circle skirt is huuuge, so it's going to show my booty when I turn around  Undecided:

Another look:

Also, the ties are 3 metres long, which is a little excessive  Embarrassed

I like it more than I thought I would, but I do have some issues I'd like to resolve...

When I cut the waist in the circle, I actually managed to cut it oval, so now the hem is wopnky. Any tips on getting it straight?

Is there any way to fix the "shows my bum" problem??

Thank you! xxx

42  Re: Sewing 2 way stretch fabric with serger - help! it's all going wrong! in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by kinkyknit on: July 20, 2006 09:21:35 AM
Right, I left the project for 24 hours thinking I'd come back to it fresh - just tried and again and grrr...still no joy  Angry

I thought I'd take some pictures so I can explain better, and it might be obvious to the more experienced, just what I'm doing wrong. (please note that in between stopping to take the photos, I was trying to feed the fabric through with my hands)

OK, so I start with 2 scrap bits lined up in my machine:

Start sewing and it starts to veer off a bit straight away:

Just a few stitches, and it's completely gone off to the side:

OK, so I also tried with a line of machine basting:
Here we are, ready:

Started: (bearing in mind I am trying to feed with my hands)

Few stitches in and it's completely f***ing up:

I think I've found my own personal hell.  All I want to do is serge a straight line.  It's making me want to throw myself out of the window Sad

Is there something I'm doing wildly wrong in these pics? Please help!

46  Re: Stuffing toys knit in dark yarn in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by kinkyknit on: July 06, 2006 12:53:19 AM
If it's not meant for really young kids

This kid is 35 and is mr Kinkyknit!!!

Thanks for the advice.  I can't knit it tightly, because the pattern calls for a wrapping technique which will leave little gaps, here's a picture of it slightly stretched, on top of white paper: (sorry for fuzziness)

I'll definately see if that dark stuffing can be found in the UK though.

ps - it's going to be a spaceman.

You were super fun to craft for!  Cheesy

Well...after my first two FOC #3 parcels, I didn't think it could get any better....then today's post arrived!!!!

Suprises for my babies!!!! For a start, the parcel is off-the-scale fantastic, and for another thing, my kitties are incredibly important to me, and my FOC took the time to notice that! I'm so touched and so happy. (But wait till you see how happy the cats are!!!!)

Ninja was out when the parcel arrived, but Mojo was home, and she helped me unwrap...

A HUGE amount of kitty toys, treats and bowls.

"yum yum! - catnip!" says Mojo

Adorable bowls with cat drawings on! - one each!!! (ps - it has not gone un-noticed that everything sent was dupicated - there will be no jealous kitties here!)

I called Ninja in because I didn't want her to miss out on all the fun that myself and Mojo were having, and she immediately tucked in to the catnip frenzy:

These toys and treats are all things that I haven't seen before - particularly the catnip bubbles... yes, that's right - a bottle of bubble blowing liquid which contains catnip!!!!! hours of fun.  I can't wait for Mr K to get home so he can play too.

To my FOC: I love it. They love it.  Thank you so, so much, you are completely brilliant!!!

My camera is finally back home, so here is a picture of the hairclips and headband sent to me by Catpants - thank you!  I also received a cuff made from the same fabric as the headband, but covered in buttons!!!!  Unfortunatley, I was wearing it yesterday and it's not where I (thought I) left it. Sorry for being such an idiot!  Embarrassed

Goodness! everyone's parcels are completely brilliant! However...wait till you see what I got in the post this morning...

Oh. My. God.   Shocked You should have heard the swearing in thise house as I was opening my parcel.  It went something like this: "No f****** way!!!!!!!!"
I can't really believe they are in my house, they are sooooo cool.  I LOVE them! and they are boxes too! So you can put secret things in their tummies!!!!! I am SO overexcited.  I've been having such a crappy week and this parcel has cancelled out all of the crappy stuff - thank you!

So, to my FOC: Thank you soooooooooo much! you have made my day week happiness retun.  They are incredibly beautifully made - you are extremely talented in this arena, they are just beautiful. They are also totally "me", so you are a super duper stalker. They are currently beside my wedding photographs, because they remind me of me and my hubby (ahhh). I know he's going to be blown away by them too, when he sees them.

Seriously, I cannot thank you enough, I adore them.  Kiss Thankyouthankyouthankyou. xxx
