1  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Inkle woven guitar strap on: November 29, 2013 07:13:01 PM
It was my Dad's birthday this week. I bought an inkle loom last week. One thing led to another and I made a guitar strap for him.

This was probably a bit too adventurous for my first weaving project, but it turned out better than I thought it would.
Here is it laid out.

And here is the glamour shot.

I used this inkle weaving pattern generator to create my pattern.

I managed to break my inkle loom while weaving, apparently it wasn't meant to support 89 warp threads. I ended up clamping the working end to the tension bar and knotting the loose threads around the bars at the other end. Then when I needed to advance my work, I reclamped and knotted it in the new position. I made my warp as long as possible, but it was still a little shorter than I wished. This was fine, since my dad plays with his guitar up above his bellybutton.

The ends are from a cheap guitar strap which I bought just so I could pull it apart. I just removed the original strap and stitched my in place.

So yay, it turned out pretty awesome and much more professional looking than I thought it would.
