1  Shining Snowflake Ornaments in Winter Holidays by grayling40 on: November 09, 2012 08:44:48 AM
A few weeks ago, while debating what my annual home-made Christmas ornament would be this year, a fleeting thought crossed my mind: "How can I make beaded snowflake ornaments? They would be so pretty!" I've worked a little bit with wire in the past, experimenting with a range of gauges to find out what would bend easily but still support weight, so I thought that might work and set out to find some examples online. After a bit of googling and Etsy browsing, I came across something even better: pre-made wire snowflake forms!

Score! I immediately ordered a bunch on Amazon and impatiently waited for them to arrive in the mail. (None of my local craft stores appeared to carry them.) In the mean time, I stocked up on beads, taking full advantage of sales and coupons. Soon, with all my supplies gathered, I was ready to start crafting! Here's a look at a few of my favorites so far...

Happy holiday crafting!

I haven't spun in forever, but with the cooler temperatures here in Houston (low-80s, lol) I decided to pull out my wheel and whip something up!

"Marissa" - 100% merino wool plied with white thread, dyed by me:

And the hand-dyed fiber before spinning:

Have a great weekend! Love what everyone's posted so far and can't wait to see more!

Happy Fiber Friday!

Here's what I made this week - it's going to become a scarf for my mom for Christmas:

Brown and tan tussah silk/black merino/white nylon glitz

Have a great weekend - can't wait to see the rest!

Lots of fun colors and variety today! I escpecially love "Fairytale," "Sunshine in the Garden," and "Allegro!"

Just one for me this week. The dye job didn't exactly go as planned (does it ever??) but I still like it. Guess I'll have to try again at what I was aiming for in the first place.

"Ashley" - 4 ounces, 279 yards, alpaca/merino/tussah silk blend (super soft!!)

And another scarf update with my handspun...

Have a great weekend!

Wow - I love Sunset Lagoon! It looks so fluffy and light.

Here's what I've been working on this week:

These batts I carded...

...Became this yarn! "PollyAnn" - 352 yards of wool and nylon glitz

This is "Jordan" - 330 yards, wool from Sheep Shed Studio

And I started a scarf with the tussah silk I posted last week:

Have a great weekend! I'm excited to see more yarn!

6  Re: Fiber Friday October 31st, Halloween Edition! in Spinning: Completed Projects by grayling40 on: October 31, 2008 06:09:55 AM
Happy Halloween!

pmpknpunk - I love them! Especially #8 - it reminds me of the colored corn-on-the-cob that you find in the fall.

I've been working on my first-ever batch of tussah silk this week. It's a blend of natural-colored tan and brown. I decided to spin it disgustingly thin (at least by my standards!) in order to make this scarf from Vogue Knitting's Crocheted Scarves book:

The original roving:

And the finished yarn!

After taking the spring and summer off, it's gotten cold and I felt the urge to do some spinning!

"Juliette" - Wool, some nylon glitz for sparkle, plied with red crochet cotton

"Movie Star" - Wool with recycled sari silk throughout, plied with black thread

Thanks for looking!

Everything looks really great! The felt beads are cool.

I've got a few this week... They're all wool/nylon blends plied with transparent thread.

I think this thread was started a few minutes after my Fiber Friday post, so it was at the top of the message board and got replied to first. So - I'm going to re-post my yarn for this week:

"Star-Spangled" - a blend of wool and nylon
