1  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Presenting....DISCO DEER (aka silver stag) on: April 29, 2009 02:02:54 PM
This was part of a textiles project at my college. Basically the brief was to design a mask or headdress based on the film The Wicker Man. If you havent seen the film its basically about a policeman who goes to investigate the disappearance of a girl on a remote Scottish Island. The people on the island are part of some weird religion/cult. In the film they have a May day parade and wear animal masks. Our masks had to be based on Scottish animals. I chose a stag and here you can see it being made in stages.

The basic skeleton made with wire and a glue gun.

With added tissue paper.

The head part which was painful wear so I had to put a cushion inside lol.

Since the Wicker man is based on a pagan religion I decided to do a sort of Celtic/pagan pattern on the deers head.

The finished piece!

Believe it or not one of my teachers wanted to buy this to wear out clubbing!

3  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Whats your experience of an art career rewarding or really hard?? please help!! on: May 27, 2008 08:13:34 AM
I didnt know where to post this so feel free to move it if its in the wrong place.

Firstly i should tell you a wee bit about me. Im 19 and just applied to art college. I didnt get in and its knocked my confidence to say the least particuarly as they ticked poor on most things on this ticklist they gave me. I know i shouldnt let this get me down and its likely il apply next year although recently Ive been thinking is this the right choice?

Basically id really like to know peoples experience of having a career in art. Do you often struggle with money? Is it extremely hard work but very rewarding? Do people maybe have a career outside of art and have a bussiness on the side?

I would be extremely grateful for any advice cos I just dont know what to do anymore im not a stupid person and I know i could go to university but art is what im great at or at least I thought i was  Cry

10  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / anti-racist hoodie (please help me!) on: January 30, 2006 10:18:05 AM
hi evryone just wondering if you could please help me out

i dont know when it was but maybe a few years ago i remember seeing this hoodie and the design still sorta remains in my mind. as far as i can remember it featured four brains one was smaller than the rest and underneath each was a different race except for the small one which said racist underneath. i really want to re-create this design now although im having some problems. the main one is that i cant really remember exactly which races it mentioned on it and dont want to discriminate other ones when i only mention 3 so i dont know what to do!
i mean i dont no if people would take offence from this design.

if anyone could give me some ideas or opinions on what i should do that would be a great help as i am really kinda stuck

thanks xxxx
