21  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Secret Underground Society?! on: July 21, 2005 12:00:16 AM
When I got to the bus stop this afternoon, there was a girl sitting there crocheting a top.  I was so excited to chat with her.  I'm not the only one in town after all.  I feel better just knowing that.

Or maybe does he mean those jackets that boxers wear, made out of silk, with a hood and something embroidered on the back?  (I've never seen one like the Liberace wrestler shown above! Not that I watch wrestling)

Count me in as part of the secret society.  I live in a ski resort town of about 10,000 people.  Seems like 9900 of them are male ski-bums in their 20's.  There is a quilting group somewhere, but I don't quilt.  Yet.  I was born crafty, and I've been doing all sorts of weird stuff for years.  It kind of cracks me up reading all the stuff people are doing on Craftster, because it reminds me of myself 20 years ago - doing my own thing and not caring what people thought about it.  Really, I just feel sorry for people who have to go through life with no sense of creativity or originality in their lives!  DV8 - that's always been my mission statement!
24  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Extreme newbie question about cross stitch patterns on: July 14, 2005 10:11:12 PM
Sara, what you do is find the center point of your design, and mark it so you can see it.  Now fold your fabric and find it's centerpoint.  This way, you can make sure the design is evenly centered.  Start stitching at the center and work your way out.  It's like doing a puzzle.  Have fun!!
25  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: painting banner like 'muralettes', need a little help. on: July 14, 2005 10:06:01 PM
Shay, try googling canvas floorcloths.  These might be an option for you, or you can adapt the techniques for wall use.  Good luck.
26  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Sampler patterns that aren't cross-stitch??? on: July 10, 2005 05:46:42 PM
Cynthasizer - you know...you could always make your own.  I did that years ago, and it's still my masterpiece.  I just collected a bunch of fonts I liked and then did a square for each letter with a different stitch/pattern in each one.  Took a few years, but worth it, if I do say so.

What an astounding quilt!

LRS - thanks for the tip on noting fiber content and care instructions.  I'm pretty sure I'll only be using 100% cotton, but who knows in the future what could happen.  Lots of good advice to be found here!
