31  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Homemade Sprinkles? - Aint nobody got time for that! on: April 09, 2013 07:32:03 AM
Wow! I LOVE this idea! I'm a sprinkle addict, as is my boyfriend's 2 year old daughter. And sprinkles definitely do get expensive...this recipe will come in handy for the holidays. But I think I'm going to test it out sooner. The kids love helping in the kitchen and this recipe is simple enough for them to participate in. Thank you for sharing!
32  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: Pringles cans to cupcake kit! on: April 09, 2013 07:23:50 AM
Ooohhh this is so cool! It's the 2013 version of the cookie-in-the-jar gift! I would love to receive a cupcake kit as a gift. I think I need to buy some pringles on my next shopping trip!

What an ingenious idea! I think my sister would be good at a project like this. I'll have to share it with her. Your sheets are absolutely gorgeous!
34  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Exploding Peppermint Truffles- Really Explode in Your Mouth on: April 09, 2013 07:13:10 AM
I haven't had Pop Rocks in years! I'm going to have to try this recipe. It sounds delicious! Thanks so much for sharing it!

Have you made any with other flavors besides peppermint?

Very pretty! I like how the flower gives an extra pop of color.

How do you display your 3D/textured ATCs?
36  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: --Hi Ruby Copperhead-- on: April 09, 2013 07:01:56 AM
From experience, my craftalongs do seem to run fast & furious.  First, don't feel obligated to comment or discuss everything; pop in & post when you like (no one will think you rude).  Second, this discussion thread will remain active to hopefully divert some traffic from our Official Nerd Games thread; it will be a great place to meet for chatting on things that are not project/prompt related or for asking questions.  Third, this is where having a team will help out; it will breakdown a large craftalong into something that is more manageable to players, especially those who want to chat.

I will say that I have been a part of some epic craftalongs (and swaps for that matter) that were fast & furious.  But I found after a bit, I could follow it fairly well.  I stopped feeling super guilty if I missed a day on Craftster (I do have a RL), and I found everyone is so kind and truly happy to see/hear from me whenever I'm around.

The Nerd Games are most likely going to be HUGE!  But I doubt that Craftster would open a board just for it (Plus, I like the fact that I might draw anyone into the Craftster Craftalong section; what a wondrous place to get inspired!).  Further, I'm sure Craftster wouldn't want us opening up tons of threads for one craftalong, i.e. Team threads, mostly because they go off-topic (crafting topic) quickly.  For the HPC, we use the Friends of Craftster Off-Topic Chit-Chat boards.  There we chat up our teammates about movies, food, books, secret planning Cool, life, etc.  Also, you can chat up your teammates through PMs.

For browsing the projects, let it be known that I will link up every submission to one of the first page posts (and you could always use the handy "Show Images Only" button).  And I'm pretty sure the thread will be stickied so it will be easy to find, and the page will remain up so peeps can comment even after the games are over.

How I keep track of where I'm at is to either reference my last post on the thread (like a thread bookmark) or use the "Replies to Your Posts" feature.  Also, I post huge reply comments, and will use @membername to highlight whom I'm talking to.

My suggestion is to enjoy.  Jump in and comment when you can.  Don't fret about commenting on everything.  Post what you've crafted (that's the biggest one, posting projects will get others inspired).

Hope that helps! Grin

It made me feel a bit better. I was reading through the HPC yesterday and while I got super excited to join, it also made me a little nervous because there were 48 pages to read through and the previous craftalongs were huge. Some times I find it difficult to get on the interwebs every day and knowing that I won't be expected to read through the 24,000 pages the thread acquires while I'm away is a relief. I also like that you'll be linking all the pictures at the beginning of the thread so that way I won't feel like I'm really missing out on anything. Just makes me more excited to get started!
37  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Journal Prompts - Round 2 Sign-up 3/31 - 4/12/13 on: April 09, 2013 06:15:22 AM
I'll be eligible to sign up tomorrow after a few more posts and I would like to join. I've been wanting to get into journal writing and this should help inspire and motivate me to do it. Smiley
38  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Craftalongs / Re: HP Craftalong ~Spring Semester 2013~ *Join at any time!* on: April 09, 2013 06:04:08 AM
I spent all afternoon yesterday reading through the posts and coming up with ideas of what crafty projects I've been wanting to make would fit into which category. I'm so looking forward to joining in this. I haven't been as crafty lately as I'd like to be, although I've been stockpiling various items for future projects so hopefully this will help me get all those projects finished...I have a feeling it will also give me plenty of reason to run out to my craft store and pick up more goodies too. Here's my first assignment!

Class/Challenge/House Pride: Alchemy
House: Ravenclaw
Project Name: Baked Mac & Cheese
Brief Description: This is a version of the macaroni and cheese my mom use to bake. She created her own recipe, based off of what she liked and thought would be good -- never wrote the recipe down or really used any measurements, so unfortunately I cook the same way. I made some alterations to her recipe though, because I decided to try to start eating a little bit healthier. Her recipe used elbow macaroni, 2 8-oz bags of shredded sharp cheddar (1 in white and 1 in yellow), milk, salt and pepper. My slightly healthier version includes whole grain macaroni and nonfat milk - and that's as far as I went for healthy eating lol. I did change up the types of cheeses, though, I only used 1 bag of the sharp cheddar and then 1 bag of the macaroni and cheese blend.

So I cooked the pasta first, and while it was cooking, I melted half a bag of each flavor of cheese in a saucepan with milk. I flavored the milk with a dash or two of pepper. I also eyeballed the amount of milk I needed, based on how much pasta I used. You want the cheesy-milk sauce to cover all your pasta. After the pasta cooked and all the cheese melted in the milk, I drained the pasta then poured the cheese sauce over top of the pasta to coat it evenly. Then put it into a baking pan. I used the remaining 1/2 bags of cheese to coat the top. Baked at 400 for about 20 minutes. I had a hungry boyfriend waiting for dinner so mine was only in the oven for about 15 minutes and didn't get as crispy on the top as I would have liked, but it was still delicious - even if it was partially healthy! That dress is so gorgeous. I love that shade of yellow too, looks great with the pearls. I may have to try this tutorial because I adore the dress!
