Details of swap:

You will craft a "page" - more like a quilt block - with unfinished sides and back and your partner will add it to his/her art journal or make a fabric book. Each swapper may choose the size they would like and the theme and their partners will have artistic license to interpret this theme as they wish. This could also be called a mixed-media fabric art journal page because you will add, incorporate and embellish with lots of goodies - fabric, buttons, ribbon, charms, sequins, paper and whatever else you can think of and/or already possess.

NOTE: We are swapping 1 page each with 2 or 3 partners, as we did in Rounds 3 and 4.

As in all swaps, communication is key for a happy swap. So chat with your partner, chat in the discussion thread and ask questions This is a new technique and medium for most of us so we're all newbies in this swap.

2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / OTT Books or Shaped (Small) Books? on: February 26, 2016 10:17:38 PM
I've taken 3 bookmaking classes in the last year and I have made a gazillion books. I don't seem to fill them up with art - I just like making them at this point.

Anyone up for either an OTT Book swap or maybe a shaped book swap? I have been mostly making square books, and house-shaped books but the possibilities are endless. Mike Deakin (an artist on YouTube) is making a round journal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oK_KBUdphLQ.

Details of swap: This is the third (I think) Junker Jane-stayle doll swap. Who is Junker Jane? She is a Portland-based artist - more info here:
http://junkerjane.blogspot.com/p/bio.html

You make a doll based on your partner's preferences - the fun thing about these dolls is that the wide range of fabrics and embellishments you can use. In past swaps, swappers made cats, snakes, an octopus and other creatures and critters with many types of fabric and lace, stain, painting and found objects. Some folks prefer the grungy look while others have used bright and colorful fabrics. It is artist's choice ultimately but there is so much freedom to making these dolls.

Not a doll maker? That's okay, too. The limbs are often attached externally and the sewing can be sketchy and uneven, which adds to the charm of these creations.

For international partners (if we have some) - It is okay to send doll UNSTUFFED to save on postage. I know that postal rates in the US are going up in mid-January so this will help with postage.

Details of swap:

In this swap you will make your partner one Dotee doll in the theme of...

~Literary~

This month we will be inspired by our partners' favorite books, authors or characters. For all of you LOTR, GoT and HP fans, this is another chance to get a little fandom dotee. Or perhaps it's Poe, Shakespeare, or Rand who floats your boat. And maybe, you'll introduce your partner to a new author or genre.

This is a monthly swap, but you do NOT have to join in each month's round! Feel free to only join in for themes you love, or to pass on months when you have no spare time.

Discuss future themes and get updates for the next month's here.

Shipping: For shipping within the USA - please get a tracking number for your package. Non-US packages - please save your receipt as proof of sending. When you send AND receive, please remember to PM your partner and the organizer, Smmarrt. Posting in the swap thread is not enough!

What is a dotee?

A dotee is a mini art doll, meant to be traded or swapped. The dolls 6" tall or smaller, but the hanger or tail can exceed that measurement. They have a face, but do not require arms or legs (unless that's part of your design). Dotees have a loop for hanging, and some come with tails (tails are fibers, ribbon, charms or other string-y things that add to the theme of the doll), and can be made from a variety of materials - fabric, felt, paperclay, yarn, beads, gourds or any other material/media that you can make a doll from. Most dotee makers add buttons, beads, sequins, embroidery, or charms to embellish the doll.

Check out the galleries from previous dotee swaps to get some ideas:

What is a ninni? A cute monster with a free pattern: http://blog.revoluzzza.com/2009/02/25/tutorial-hopw-to-sew-a-revoluzzzionary-monster-wie-man-ein-revoluzzzionares-monster-naht/

(The use of the word "Fall" in the title does not mean that your ninni has to be fall/autumn-related - it's just a description for me since I hosted the Fall/Character Ninni swap last year.)

You will craft one ninni for your partner based on his/her themes. Extras must be discussed between partners.
The ninni pattern is about 8" x 11.5" which results in a small ninni - about 6" tall when finished. You can resize the pattern to make your ninni larger. Fabric and embellishments make your ninni unique - check out some of the past galleries to see how to think outside of the ninni box!
