You are surprised by my choice of model? Of course, it was a slice of toast!

I buy only Silhouette branded blades for the machine (Because nobody else makes them and the metal ones are, I think, too heavy and put a strain on the motor, although other ppl do use them)- sometimes I use their cutting mats too, but usually I use Cricut mats that are cheaper anyway. Silhouette vinyl is rubbish and to be avoided at all costs. Most in the USA (I am in the UK) use Oracal vinyl. I think you can even get free samples each month from Oracal by registering with them. Another source are places that have offcuts from their own business use - some get it free (like I do from a local sign shop) while others pay just a small amount for the stuff they would otherwise throw away. For the small amount you need, it can be quite cheap.

I have the Silhouette Cameo which can cut up to 12 inch wide materials. They have recently brought out a cheaper one, the Portrait which cuts up to A4 width (approx letter size width). I love mine but it is a steep learning curve but there are a ton of tutorials on utube for the Cameo which will work for both. I did have an earlier version called a Craft Robo and these can still sometimes be picked up on Ebay for a reasonable price. They all use the free Silhouette Studio software.

I actually use a program designed to work with my digital cutter ( the same one I use for making stencils for etching dichroic glass) and use for other things as glass is a very new craft for me. It is Silhouette Studio and the basic version is a free download. It enables me to trace the parts of the image that I want to recreate and put in some colour to guide me too. It definitely makes the job a lot easier than it would be any other way, although I know it is also possible to do the same with layers in many other graphics programs.

Thank you from me too - I am such a novice at this "glass stuff" and am grateful for all of the advice and encouragement I receive here.

Lovely piece and an amazing story to go with it. I have yet to buy a mould like this one although I will soon (I hope).
