22  A story of 10 penguins in Glass Crafts: Completed Projects by Bendog on: November 05, 2013 12:06:05 PM
A while ago I was asked to make a large Penguin Suncatcher for auction to support the running costs of an online live trivia game site and 10 smaller ones as fixed price items. So, we borrowed some time at our local glass shop and cut out the penguins. I made the large one which was duly auctioned and just two of the smaller ones as take up seemed to be very slow. Actually, none of the smaller ones were sold at all! So I was left with them to use in some way myself: the two that I had already made were trimmed from the suncatchers (which had the site name on it) and became fridge magnets; three more became "The Three Wise Penguins" and the last five went into "Beware of Penguins Bearing Gifts".

Original picture and how I simplify it to make it into something possible to make 12cm (about 5 inches) square.

25  Maldon, Essex, UK Tile 2 in Glass Crafts: Completed Projects by Bendog on: August 09, 2013 09:27:36 AM
This has been made for the same person as the other Maldon picture tile. Her mother's name is Dawn (hence the name of the boat) and she was a work colleague of mine before she retired and moved to Maldon.

I have made some alterations to the original picture using glass pens that are cured in a domestic oven. The lady I made this for is now away, so I will not see her until August 22nd.

The person I made this for does not like it as it does not look enough like the real thing.

Maldon is famous for its Maldon Sea Salt and the barges like this one. The scene of the town is a decal I made and fired into the glass and the barge is tack fused onto the tile.

Victorian London architecture does nothing for me and I really did not enjoy making it. This is the original image I was given to wrok from and my simplification of it.
