1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: findings for crystal point pendants? on: July 17, 2013 09:23:32 AM
I work with crystals also, and have often wondered the same thing. I've bought a point with that type of finding once, & took it apart just to see how it works. They gouged a line in the crystal to fit it snugly, and glued it down. I don't know if that's something they can even sell  to jewelry artists like ourselves, seeing as there are so many variants to it. (size of crystal, width, length, size of the finding, design of the finding ect). Plus to me it seems like you would have to cut the crystal yourself, and apply and the soder the finding on, and coat it with glue. ugh. I hate using glue on my jewelry I very rarely ever do, it takes away from the properties of the crystal I think.

5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Telephone books on: June 22, 2013 06:03:03 PM

I used to have a link but in short make mini books out of them to use as decor for doll houses or drill holes to hang from stuff...here is what you do...

figure how big you want your mini book to be. cut that from the spine of the phone book. open it up a bit and make those inside pages shorter all around. then cover the edges in a pretty paper of choice, like a book cover. glue everything shut. use as you please. maybe I'll try making a tutural, I've been meaning to get to this exact project for awhile

8  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / How can I fix this????????????????????? (my sweetie messed things up) on: May 11, 2013 11:57:12 AM
We are having a yard sale and I have put some of my business jewelry out. Things I normally sell for $7 I was selling for $2-$4 because tomm. is mothers day. So anyways Dear Husband (DH) was outside with the sale, I'm indoors with the kids cause it's chilly. He brings me out after about 10min of talking with the guy & he just says to me

customer- "I like your jewelry & your husband said you can make me 25 pairs."

Me-Sure can sir...which were you interested in.

him- this and these...how long will it take you for 25 pairs

DH pipes in---oh she can crank earrings out quick, prob an evening or two

Customer---how about $1 a pair

Me-NO

DH-$1 is just cost

Customer $2 would be double cost then?

DH---ya

Customer to DH while one of the kids came out for me---ok here's my info...25 pairs in 2 weeks for $2 a piece & these are which I want.

sooooooooo DH messed up two things...told the customer that I do em quick (less labor) & told the customer my at cost. I can't very well charge someone knows what it costs me like 7 times that let alone when they know it only takes me a few min...

Here's where I need your help. how do I tell DH to stfu about that stuff without pissing him off? Also customer told me his name & he's a very influential man locally, I recognized his name. Apparently he was also talking to DH about this poss. becoming a regular thing him buying our items to re-sell to some people in his biker club. How do I tell customer I want to up my profits for the next batch?
9  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Tips for Participating in Craft Fairs / Re: Craft Show Pearls of Wisdom... on: May 03, 2013 05:42:13 PM
thank you for all your pearls. We are going to our first flea market next month, and we'll be doing fairs in the fall. One I've always used where there may not be a bathroom near is a kids training potty (& a bucket with a lid for disposing) in the back (of the suv is often closer & cleaner then the port-a-pottys for my kids and I've used it in an emergency too). I have 5 kids, two of which will be with us during the craft fairs or flea markets. I also make lists of everything.
