681  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Gathered denim purse on: February 26, 2013 08:26:06 AM
I made this from a large rectangle of black denim fabric which has one seam at the center back an one at the bottom (which I pleated to make the purse poofy). I didn t put interfacing because of the fabrics thickness and stiffness. It has also a tunnel with elastic at the top to gather. I  made by hand decorative  topstiching with cotton perle thread. It isn't perfectly made but I think it s very cute!

I rather like the no top stitching look. Looks professional, and more organic...if that makes sense. You can concentrate on the wonderful shape and colors.
Yes it makes sense ....... when my mother was a child (maaaany years ago!!!!) and studied sewing,  she was taught by the teacher-seamstress never to topstich in general, except if doing so for decoration (with special threads).
Thank you for your kind comments!!!

Awesome color.  I really like the lining you chose to go with it.  Was the faux leather difficult to work with?  I'd be afraid of breaking all my needles.
Thank you for your nice comments:) The color is ever more beautiful in person! If you use thick needle it's ok.  But you will need to change your presser foot. I didn' t have the proper one, so i sewed only on the wrong interfaced side of the material. If you look at the photos there is no topstitching, because there was no way to stitch on the right side of the leather. That means  that I made a lot of handsewing gggrrrrrrrr! It was a hell, and i broke my fingers, instead of my needles:p

This is a japanese knot purse  made of faux leather and a matching suede for some details in the handles. I lined it with a very pretty thick satin. This project took me hours and hours to complete, as this material was very difficult to handle.
