1  FIBER ARTS / Dyeing: Discussion and Questions / Does anyone know how to get intricate dyes on nylon? on: February 13, 2013 12:23:22 PM
Hello all, and thank you for taking the time to read this. I have recently started a project to discover how to dye nylon lacrosse mesh like this: http://i.imgur.com/FfEi2Y6.jpg. It seems very hard from what I have tried so far, but a number of people have figured it out. Does anyone have an idea on how to keep the colors from bleeding, like what is seen in the picture? I'll list below some ideas I have tried, and some that I still have to try.

What I've tried-

Dipping in RIT dye, resulted in far too much bleeding
Painting with RIT dye and blowdrying it, still resulted a good amount of bleeding
Using electrical tape to block off areas, didn't help very much

What I'm going to try-

FabricMate Dye Markers
Wax Resist (will be hard for such small areas)
Dye Thickener/Paste
Intense pressure by clamping blocks onto places I do not want dyed

Thank you for reading, and I hope I get some good suggestions. This has been extremely hard to figure out so far.
