I really like how the orange on the sepia-toned photograph provides just the perfect amount of pop. A very fanciful, yet grounded, piece!
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Altered Photo: "Memorial" on: March 03, 2013 01:01:45 PM
This was a paparazzi picture of Ethel Kennedy leaving Robert's gravesite that I photocopied onto plain white paper. I painted the white portions gold (minus the cross) to give it an antiqued look.

The block is comprised of vintage (1930's) fabric remnants that I pinned onto a square of batting, then I just free-style stitched and embellished as I saw fit. The two military buttons were my grandfather's during WWII, and I collected the shells on Catalina Island.

I love treasure hunting to find just the right pieces for my blocks. Every piece is a journey!

Grumpycat is definitely grumpy but also misunderstood, and I think that's really captured in his eyes in this piece.

Inspiring! I've always wanted to get into calligraphy. Yours looks amazing. Funny piece, too. "No smiling..." Love it.
