I forgot my House Unity project!

Class: House Unity
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Slytherin Slouchy
Project Description: Still messing around with hat patts, I made a Slytherin flavoured slouchy hat.

POST IN PROGRESS - SAVING AS I GO, CUZ I LEARNED THIS THE HARD WAY EARLIER!

MORE! I broke the post up - not sure if it matters, but just in case the page needs to break or something. . .

Class/Challenge: History of Magic
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Fiona's Waistcoat
Project Description: More for the Cosplay! This time I used a corset pattern and modified it. I only had a bit of the red fabric I needed, so I made the back from muslin since it will never be seen. Cheesy Another hidden secret is that the buttons are fake. The actual closure is a big strip of velcro! Smiley
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Muggle Studies
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Purple Berry Slippers
Project Description: I chose the old axiom "Waste not want not" for Muggle Studies this term. These tiny slippers are a great use of yarn scraps that would otherwise be wasted. They take me a while to knit in spite of that, LOL, but I really love how they look!
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Potions
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Fiona Cosplay Coat
Project Description:My boggart would be constantly changing into new things, because my big fear is tackling new things. This coat for my Fiona cosplay started life as a Salvation Army coat - very dated and kind of icky, but it was still terrifying for me to cut it up, especially as I'd spent $25 on it!! I wish I had a before pic. Smiley
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Study of Ancient Runes
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Fiona's Cosplay Shirt
Project Description: Looking at pics of Fiona, it took a lot of figuring out how I was going to do her top. It's not really that clear (to me anyway) how it all goes together. I decided to do a blouse under a waistcoat, so then I had to figure out the blouse. I found a Salvation Army one I liked, though the sleeves weren't long enough. I removed the collar and stitched the seam closed again, placed grommets at the neck and painted it. The grommets hold 2 bars much like tie bars to function as as closure. To solve the sleeve issue, I made sleeve cuffs to wear on my wrists that stuck out from the jacket sleeves. Smiley
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Transfiguration
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Undies ad T-shirt for Durango
Project Description: These required precise scaling and measurement. Even though I was working from a pattern, I had to alter it to fit D, since most dolls are somewhat differently shaped. D's glad to have a shirt, even though he has nice abs, and he's thrilled for boxer briefs that actually fit properly this time!

Thank you, Audania! Smiley

Class/Challenge: Alchemy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Sasha Dress and Hat
Project Description: I love knitting, and I'm getting better at it as I practice. This Sasha doll dress and hat was so fun to make!
Project Link: I used this pattern from Ravelry. Smiley
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Apparition
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Blue Star Bloomers
Project Description: Here's a tip on sewing for dolls: binding and elastics are easier added BEFORE you stitch the closing seams. Although this is counter-intuitive for people who sew for normal-sized folks, it's really the easiest way to do it for tiny garments like this.
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Arithmancy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name:December Daily Album
Project Description: A friend goaded me into doing a December Daily album, and in order to feel inspired, I converted an IKEA notebook (with lovely watercolour paper!) by changing the cover.
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Astronomy
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Twin Hats
Project Description: When I studied the meteor showers, I was drawn to the Geminids (prolly cuz I'm a Gemini.) According to Professor Wikipedia, "The meteors in this shower appear to come from a radiant in the constellation Gemini," so I made these twin, but not identical hats
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Banned Bag
Project Description: Christmas has been banned be various people in various times, from the 17th century Puritans, to the 20th century Soviet Union and beyond. This dolly bag celebrates all that is Christmas with traditional green, red and gold.
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Charms
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: A red hat for Durango
Project Description: In studying blood charms I was drawn to this red yarn. I'm still working on a good BJD hat pattern (knit OR crochet.) This one was another trial and error, but D seems to like it.
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Defence Against the Dark Arts
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Fiona Cosplay Pants
Project Description: I made a Fiona (from Tales From the Borderlands) cosplay. The fabric paint had to be heat set in the dryer.
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Divination
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Yellow Bloomers and Flower Bloomers
Project Description: After making the star bloomers, I decided to try modifying the pattern to get some longer bloomers. These are something I'd like to make more of in the future to sell in my Etsy shop. I think I'll make some with wider knees that I can gather and edge with lace!
Project Pic/s:

Class/Challenge: Floo Powder - Grimmauld Place
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Dolly Uggs
Project Description: MyFroggyStuff made some great Uggs, and I shrank the 18" doll patt a bit to fit My Sashas. The secret element here is that rather than sewing from a thick fleece, the boots are sewn from felt and then a thin strip of stretched fleece (to make the edges curl and hide themselves) is glued on to give the illusion of shearling boots.
Project Pic/s:

Challenge: Hagrid's Twelve Christmas Trees -Bells
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Star Plushie
Project Description: I wanted to make a sweet pastel doll plushie that was a soft colour AND a soft texture. Here he is! The wool od SOOO soft, and is felted over magic eraser for max squishiness. Cheesy
Project Pic:

Challenge: Hagrid's Twelve Christmas Trees - Candles
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Toasty Warm Socks
Project Description: My eldest gets a warm glow and warm tootsies, too, from these socks!
Project Pic:

Challenge: Hagrid's Twelve Christmas Trees - Garland
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Snowy White Dress
Project Description: We had some lovely snowfalls this December, and Pippa got a fluffy white dress inspired by the mounds of snow. I love the way our cardinals look sitting in the bushes with a backdrop of pristine frozen glory, so she got a red and white hairbow, too!
Project Pic:

Challenge: Hagrid's Twelve Christmas Trees - Lights
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Bright white Christmas Bag
Project Description: This bright red and white bag with a glittery star is a fun way to light up the holidays. It's also very light(weight!) *GROAN*
Project Pic:

Challenge: Hagrid's Twelve Christmas Trees - Ribbon
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Hat and Belt for Fiona Cosplay
Project Description: Fiona really isn't Fiona without her hat, and the belt that she wears half under her coat and half over is very much Fi, too. Here's what I made to tie my costume all together. Cheesy
Project Pic:

Challenge: Hagrid's Twelve Christmas Trees - Star
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: You're a Star Bloomers
Project Description: Somehow I've gotten pretty decent at sewing, so often, I feel that's one of my "shining" crafts. (Other times, not so much, LOL!) Yet another pair of Dolly Bloomers as I try to perfect the bum size, knee bands, etc.
Project Pic:

Challenge: Hagrid's Twelve Christmas Trees - Tinsel
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Glittery Watercolour
Project Description: For the title page in my December Daily, I decided to try my hand at watercolour. This is TOTALLY new to me. I used one of those water-pen brushes (LOVE!) to make a little scene, and used a GLITTERY snowman diecut to flesh it out. I had SO MUCH FUN!
Project Pic:

Challenge: Hagrid's Twelve Christmas Trees - Tree skirt
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Put a Lid On It
Project Description: With so many girls in the house as well as guests who sometimes need to avail themselves, we have quite a supply of pads. They were living in a basket in the bathroom, but I thought it might be nice to disguise them a bit and pretty up the basket as well. Now that I know what I'm doing, I could probably make another in MUCH less time, but this was my first go-round. I cut a piece of cardboard to fit into the top of the basket. Since the basket is fabric lines, it has a wire frame just inside, hidden by the fabric, and the lid fits perfectly on top! I covered the lid with fabric, hot gluing it in place. I wanted a handle, but I didn't want to just glue it to the fabric, because I knew that eventually it would pull the fabric away from the cardboard, so I used a needle and thread and ran it through a smaller bead on top to secure it. Afraid that the threads might pull out on the bottom, I knotted them, left a tail and hot glued them down with another strip of carbdoard to hide the ends and help secure things. I have to say that every time I see this silly thing it makes me super happy. Each to their own, LOL!
Project Pic:

Class/Challenge: Herbology
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name: Very Berry Sasha Slippers
Project Description:Hebology was a joy this term, as I simply ADORE teas of all kinds. I focused on berry teas when making these.
Project Link: I bought the pattern on Etsy for $1.88 Cheesy Here's the link.

Head of Huffle here, hanging head in shame. I've been such an absentee HM. Trying to catch up the common room now, and eventually will have a bit of a project dump.

You guys are making SUCH AMAZING THINGS!!

Since I'm still the last post on the page, I'm going to edit to add my OWL. It's pic heavy, so the rest will go in a separate project dump post.

~*COMPLETED OWL HEADER*~
OWL Subject & Option (if available):
House: HUFFLEPUFF
Project Name: Gryffindor Cu-Poche Room
Brief Description:

Potions 1 involved taking different ingredients and making them work together. (At least 3 diff colours/patts/textures) For my project I used quite a number of ingredients - namely foam core board, fabric, yarn, paper, paint and glue, as well beads paperclips and wood, so I guess that could be classed into glass, wood, paper, etc. The primary colours used are maroon, gold, silver and green.

After wanting one for some time, I finally got a darling Cu-Poche "Anne" model, and decided to make her a roombox. I watch a lot of vids from MyFroggyStuff on YouTube, and that woman makes INCREDIBLE things out of virtually nothing, so I was super inspired from seeing all of that. I decided to make Melina (my Cu-Poche) a Gryffindor Dorm Room, but as I was making it, her story evolved.

So it turns out that Melina was born to Slytherins, but sorted into Gryffindor. (Gee, had I read the Cursed Child at some point before this? LOL!) Her mum had already knitted her a Slytherin scarf and cushion cover, but she also has a Gryffindor scarf for during the school day. Her troubles trying to fit into her new house, and her identification with her "expected" house have led her to start the Hogwarts House Unity Club. To be honest, there aren't a lot of members yet, but their ranks are slowly growing. Melina has stuff from her club friends in her room - a Badger head figurine from a Huffle friend, and a little bag of silver and blue candies from an older Ravenclaw friend (purchased in Hogsmeade, of course - Melina has yet to experience the joys of Honeydukes for herself!) Her mum was shocked but understanding when she learned of the sorting, and she made Melina a Gryffindor afghan for her bed. When Melina told her about the new club she'd started, her mum braided a silver and maroon rug for her floor to signify the beauty of unity. Melina has a cat familiar, and you can see, various things for classes and clubs in her room - potion ingredients, yarn for S.P.E.W. club knitting, a globe, spellbooks, a Holyhead Harpies banner and more. Her desire to unite students from different houses grew to encompass a curiosity about Muggles, and she became pen friends with a Muggle girl as well. (She does have to maintain secrecy about the wizarding world in her letters.)

The room and all the furniture are made from foam core board. If you have Qs about anything, I'm glad to tell you how I made it. I'll spare you all the details, though unless you want to know, LOL!

Hi fellow Hogwartians!  I feel super bad about basically being an absentee HoH for the last month or so.  My mom was doing poorly, so I went out to spend some time with her (she's MUCH better now!! Cheesy) and then my programming class started. It's MIT's (FREE!!) online intro to Python class, and generally quite a good class, but  IT IS SUCKING UP MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!  Seriously, it's taking me so long to figure some of this stuff out. It's pretty rewarding in the end, though (so far.) TBH, I don't really plan to do much with the knowledge. I'm doing it for the challenge and to keep my brain active, cuz you just need to do stuff like that, right?

Anyway, my sincere apologies. The class ends in November (early Nov, I think!), and I hope to be much more active after that, but if that's not the case, I'll be stepping down as HoH.

I got a (very nice) rejection letter from DAW for my novel, so I'll shop it around at a few more houses (it's hard to find places that take unagented manuscripts!) and if they don't pan out, I'll try an agent or 3, or put it on Amazon, or something, LOL! I'm not too fussed about it. After all, Harry Potter was rejected by I think one agent and 12 houses before being picked up by Bloomsbury. Smiley (Bet they're kicking themselves now!)

I have a bunch of things I actually did make, but hardly any fit the remaining prompts. So I'll just show some piccys for fun for a bunch of them. ^_^

Class: Detention in the Dungeons - August
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W. : YES! "For the Children of Pine Ridge" on Ravelry
Project Name: Cosy Muffler!
Project Description: The High Horses of Wanblee , SD are collecting warm items for kids ages NB through high school. This is one of the soft, squishy, warm mufflers I made to send.
Project Pic:

Class: Headmistress's Challenge - Sept
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W. : N/A
Project Name: Confectionary Clock
Project Description: My dolls have pretty busy lives sometimes, so they really needed a clock to help keep them on track. This one looks like a cake! I had a nice, big, wooden button that I loved but that was really too big for any projects I had queued up, so it became the cake plate. Smiley
Project Pic:

When I was at my mom's, since she wasn't feeling great, we had a bunch of down-time (which was actually VERY NICE!!) We watched a LOT of Foyle's War and while we watched, I knit a bunch of things for Pine Ridge. It was super cosy. Smiley  I hope it's OK to save time and put a collage here, since they're only for S.P.E.W. and don't fit either of the remaining prompts I have.

Challenge: S.P.E.W. * 8
S.P.E.W. For the Children of Pine Ridge
Project Description:When I was at my mom's, since she wasn't feeling great, we had a bunch of down-time (which was actually VERY NICE!!) We watched a LOT of Foyle's War and while we watched, I knit a bunch of things for Pine Ridge. It was super cosy. Smiley  I hope it's OK to save time and put a collage here, since they're only for S.P.E.W. and don't fit either of the remaining prompts I have. I'm counting the 2 brown cowls as 1 thing because they're quite small. They fit over my own head and are cosy, but I imagine they'll be given to a K or 1st grader.
Project Pic:

And finally, some just-for-funs (NOT for credit, Headmistresses, do not worry about counting these!!):

I originally thought this would go to Pine Ridge, but then I saw that the yarn was a little more high-maintenance than is appropriate, so it will go in my shop or something.

I had a lot of fun making tiny bags for dolls! I made 2 that are nearly identical, so here's one:

I also made an outfit for one of the dolls:

A funny little mushroom:

And some knickerbockers and a dress shirt for my newest little guy:

Thank you, Mistress Jennie and Mistress Noodle-Bug for ALL the hard work you put in!!

Fellow students, you are all SO inspiring! Seriously, I wouldn't be prompted to do nearly what I do without you, and I find it all so satisfying. Thank you for being a part of this wonderful community!

A bit of a project dump from me:

Challenge: Floo Powder - Zambia
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W.: Pine Ridge Reservation
Project Name: Hat for Pine Ridge Reservation
Project Description: This challenge required us to take inspiration from another HPC member. PinkLeo used to make a lot of afghan squared for PRR, and that's where I first learned of the plight of this extremely poverty-stricken area of our country. It really resonated with me, because my parents lived in Rapid City, SD for a while, and it turns out that my dad actually had patients on the reservation there when he was a visiting nurse. Since I've learned more about it, I can't get it off my mind, so I was grateful to find that someone is coordinating a drive for warm knitted items for the school kids at one of the poorest schools in this poorest area.
Project Pic:

Challenge: Quidditch - Penalty Shots - Blatching
House: Hufflepuff
Project Name:Elephants for Kacey
Project Description:My 2nd daughter is off to college this year and she adores elephants. I'd gotten this fabric some time back, and made her a pillowcase to take with her. It seemed a tad short so I added a crochet edging, thus colliding 2 different techniques.
Project Pic:

Challenge: Quidditch - Penalty Shots - Bumphing
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W.: Pine Ridge Reservation
Project Name: Cosy Mitts for Pine Ridge
Project Description:These are thick and cosy! They're knitted with 2 strands of bulky yarn held together. I wanted the child who received these to feel warm and cosy in the bitter prairie winds.
Project Pic:

Challenge: Quidditch - Penalty Shots - Snitchnip
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W.: Pine Ridge Reservation
Project Name: Little Mittens for Pine Ridge
Project Description: I've made a lot of fingerless mitts, but was incomfortable with the idea of doing fingers or thumbs, and have never made mittens before. This is the first time I've tried, and it wasn't so bad after all, LOL!
Project Pic:

OK, less of a dump than I'd thought because I discovered in teh nick of time that 2 I had ready have to stay secret until a contest on another forum is completely finished!

Abbeeroad, sending good thoughts for your dad!

I used my kids as an excuse to go to B&N last night/this morning.  Didn't initially think I was going to get to go but we DID, and got to see an out-of-town friend who was here to visit as well.  We had a lot of fun, and I finished the new book a little while ago.  I REALLY ENJOYED IT, and that's all I'll say. ^_^  I knit myself a cuff to wear to the partay:

Challenge: Quidditch - Flacking
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W.: N/A
Project Name: Slytherpuff Cuff
Project Description: I was awarded a Flacking penalty for shoving my hand through this cuff in an attempt to save a shot. Sad  I wore this to the Potter release party last night.  When I discovered I was going to get to go, we were packing for a trip up North, and I had to grab from my stash, and my stash alone - no time to get to a yarn store.  I found this pattern, and though I didn't have grey, I had some silver.  Since I was a hatstall between Slytherin and Hufflepuff, I decided that this would be a great way to show my true colours. ^_^  There's a little bit of sparkle in the black yarn, which I love. Smiley

Hello, all!  I've been gone for a bit, but I'm back now!  Hopefully I'll be putting in more frequent appearances now.  We shall see. . . Tongue

Huffles, the Common Room is up to date at last!  And now, some QUIDDITCH!  And a Floo powder. . .

Ooooh!  I LOVE those patches, Fatewineroses!

Challenge: Floo Powder - Little Whinging
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W. N/A
Project Name: Wisconsin Drive Washie
Project Description: We went to visit the fam in WI, and I knitted this on the way. Smiley
Project Pic:

Challenge: Quidditch - Chaser
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W. N/A
Project Name: Outfit for Little Guy
Project Description: I took advantage of a Summer Event at one of the BJD sites to order a new little boy.  He'll be my first YoSD sized boy. Smiley He doesn't even have a name yet!  He'll arrive nekkid, so I made him an outfit, which Kiki is modeling tomboy-fashion.  I made a kangaroo-pocket hoodie, sporty shorts and socks. Smiley
Project Pic:

Challenge: Quidditch - Commentator
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W. N/A
Project Name: Grandma's Fave Pattern, My Fave Colour
Project Description: This is an old, traditional pattern called "Grandma's Favourite Dishcloth."  My dh's grandma knitted a TON of these, but there are hardly any left now, so when we need more dishcloths, I often like to use this pattern.  I used purple for this because I LOVE purple.
Project Pic:

Challenge: Quidditch - Penalty Shot - Stooging
House: Hufflepuff
S.P.E.W. N/A
Project Name: The Third Stooge
Project Description: For the Stooging shot, I made a third dishcloth in the style of the others.  This pattern is great, because once you have one down, you don't even need the pattern anymore! Cheesy  I ran out of purple, but I just kept going in white.
