1  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Planters from vintage tins, cannisters, and percolators and such, thoughts? on: May 12, 2013 07:35:25 AM
So I have a stock pile of vintage chrome and aluminium cannisters, percolators, and other such metal goodies I want to plant herbs in.  I am working in my head to think of a way to protect them from the obvious watering and protect my edibles from the metal.  I was thinking this might work:

Line inside with a plastic
Bottom layer some rocks for drainage
Add landscaping cloth next
potting mix on top of that

Do you think that my herbs will be happy and healthy this way?  I see tons online for upcycling metal containers for planters, but none address the water on metal issue.  Has anyone done this and not adding anything to keep the water away from the container?  Am I being overly cautious then?

Any thoughts, experiences, or suggestions are welcome.  I am making these for myself and as gifts.
