1  Re: TUTORIAL: Singlet Style Shopping Bag (like the plastic shopping bag) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by crappiefisher on: November 20, 2008 09:44:07 AM
After a little trial and error I figured out to make these by combing the various hints and help from the various posters on this board! I have about 6 made and about 10 more to go for Christmas presents. I'm thinking of trying to sell a few. I get a lot of compliments from shoppers when I use my first 2 "demos". They both have a few mistakes in them, but work very well!

Thanks so much to everyone! This is a great project! I can whip one out in an hour if you combine the cutting and sewing together. Not bad for a beginner sewer.

Here are the 7 made so far - I have 5 cut out and waiting and about 5 yards of different fabric waiting to be cut!

2  Re: Let's see your sewing machine!! in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by crappiefisher on: August 26, 2008 07:52:56 AM
This is my new machine! I absolutely love it! My first machine was a crappy Singer model that my poor hubby bought me when we were first married and very poor. I think he paid 50 bucks for it at a local discount store. I"m not dissing Singer. My  mom's is a workhorse, but the model I had was made in China and the model number (of which I have forgotten) is not even listed under the Singer page! I had to google it to find it when it started acting up. I couldn't get anyone to work on it! One guy told me that I would be better off buying a new machine. So I freecycled it to someone who knows how to sew and has emailed me back to say that she likes the machine and uses it often.  Go figure!

Anyway, here's my new baby!

I've really enjoyed seeing everyone's vintage machines. They don't make'em like they used to!

3  Book covers for me and dd in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by crappiefisher on: August 21, 2008 07:37:00 AM
My dd and I have started to go to Sunday school and my dd received her first bible from the church. I thought that it would be a good idea to make a book cover for her bible so that 1) it would look pretty when she carried it to SS (She's a "I want to look pretty all the time" kind of girl!) and 2) this would be a good way for her to carry it.
I followed the tute from this page:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=236243.0

I'm pretty proud of my work!

here's mine. the fabric is from some curtains that were left in our house when we bought it. I didn't like the curtains, but I like the fabric.

Here's my daughter's:

She picked out the fabric. She saw it this morning and loves it!

I used a pink t-shirt for the inner flaps since it is a hard cover book. I used the star stitch from my machine (which I LOVE LOVE LOVE!!)

I have one more to do for my dd's friend as a birthday present. They're in SS class together and are both quite shy and I hope that if they both have nice book covers, they would enjoy going to class more.

4  Re: Paperback Bookcovers * Now With Tute * in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by crappiefisher on: August 17, 2008 08:06:42 PM
My dd and I started Sunday school today and she received her first bible. I thought it would be cute idea to make book covers for our bibles (and a friend who is about to have a birthday).
I wanted to put handles on the covers.  I measured my bible and used some material from the drapes that were in our house when we bought it.

It fits a little tight, but works! YEAH!  I got a new Janome Magnolia 7330 for my birthday this past April. We bought our house and moved about that time too. I've just gotten to getting around to unpacking it and have really enjoyed this machine!

What do you gals think?  My dd's bible is a hard cover, so I'm thinking that the flaps will have to be attached with velcro..or do you think I can make it big enough to slip over?

5  Re: Dishalicious Dishcloth/Washcloth Swap Round 5 in The Swap Gallery by crappiefisher on: August 11, 2008 04:46:58 PM
I wanted to post the cloths that I sent to my partner because I am pretty darn proud of them! (especially one!)

The one on the left is a simple single crochet one using a varigated yarn. The other one is a cool pattern that I learned for this swap called the "8 chain dishcloth". It was really fun to make and I want make one for me!  I also threw in a little tawashi to brighten her day, the left over yarn from my project and the pattern for the 8 chain dishcloth...but the cloths she sent me were knitted, so she probably won't use it! LOL! She was a peach that Sabri3l. She's one busy mom!

This was fun ya'll! I may do this swap again!

Here are my delicious cloths from Sabri3l!  I LOVE them! They are sooo soft and I LOVE the loops so that I can hang them from my cabinet door!! So awesome!

Here is the group shot:

Here is the blue and white one!!

It's so awesome! It has these 4 wavy ridges on one side and on the other side these wavy ridges are more like channels. Very nice!

Here's the green one! (my fav!)

The color is awesome! The shape is soo awesome! It's oblong with these waves on the end. Very asymetrical! Plus the loops! must not forget the loops! LOL!

A job well done Sabri3l! Thanks so much!

9  Re: Sweat Shoppe Swap Round 13 - I WANT IN!!! in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by crappiefisher on: February 19, 2008 05:14:15 PM
Hey all!
I want in on this one! I have just finished my first swap (I <3 coffee, tea, and cocoa) and it was a blast!  I'm pretty sure I can fulfill this swap as well.
Here is what I plan to offer. Both items together will be considered to be one item for the swap:

1. Hand sanitizer cozy with hand sanitizer.  I'm thinking I will do the 1 oz size.
I'll make the hand sanitizer cozy the color of your choice with or without a motif (a flower or a button or see if I can make a motif that you want!)

2. Paper bead necklace. I have been trying to sell these things with no luck, so you lucky ducks can have one! (well, 5 of you will!)

As far as my wants:
stitch counters
tea wallet
cat ferret toy
hand made journal
hmmmm......so many cool things offered so far!

10  My first messenger bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by crappiefisher on: February 18, 2008 11:23:39 AM
I made this messenger bag for my swap partner. I don't sew much so I was impressed with how well I did! I kind of used the Jordy bag pattern, but messed up somewhere and had to just keep going.....you can't tell!

The inside lining is a nice, color-coordinating floral fabric. The image is from my swap partner's wist page that I downloaded from a web site. I figured it was ok since I didn't make any money from this project.
