1  Baby tomato hat - knitting in the round...Help!! in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by pixandpug on: September 11, 2006 05:36:24 AM
I knitted this as a small gift for my husbands work-mate who just had a baby. It was the first time I have knit in the round (first using a circular needle and then swapping to DPNS for the decreases).

Whilst I think it is not that bad a first attempt - I just can't cope with the horrible gutters and ladders that have appeared near the "stem" of the tomato  Angry

I know this can happen when using DPNS - I really tried to pull the stitches tight between the needles - I wondering if maybe I pulled too tight  Undecided

The other thing I am wondering about is why my SSK's don't look right. I have looked in every book i can find and watched online videos about how to do this - it really isn't complicated and i am sure i am doing them correctly - but they just look wrong. I am a self taught knitter which i think is half my problem...

Last question! I promise...

This is going to sound stupid - but how do you block a hat? Is it necessary?

This is where I got the pattern from - http://acechick.typepad.com/knitchicks_patterns/2006/01/strawberry_bean.html

I know my hat looks nothing like that one (another issue...) and the pattern is wrong. If you follow the pattern exactly (including the listed corrections) the leaves come out wrong...

Sorry for the long post - but I am stumped!

2  Re: Pug Swap/Dog Swap in New Swap Theme Ideas by pixandpug on: August 25, 2006 01:27:21 PM
There was a similar thing close to where I lived in Melbourne on Sunday mornings. Heaps of pugs would get together to play and sniff each other's butts etc. There would be a massive swirling herd of pugs that would migrate all over the park generally doing bad things. Oscar loved it.

I remember I actually learnt to knit because of Oscar. I really wanted to make him a jumper - so I went to spotlight and bought a pattern, needles and some wool and tried to figure out how to do it. It was a mess - the jumper was never finished - but I love knitting now. Part of the initial problem with knitting a jumper for Oscar was the measurents. He has the chest of a large dog, the butt of a small one and the length of a medium dog. it was all too much for a beginner.

Anyway - this is Oscar...

3  Has anyone seen another picture of this dress? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by pixandpug on: July 30, 2005 05:38:28 AM
Hey all,

I am desperately trying to find another picture of this dress - I found the picture in a magazine but it is very difficult to see what is going on on the front of the dress. I am hoping to recreate it for my wedding in freezing cold Paris in January. The blurb next to the pic says its a Louis Vuitton silk dress with velvet ribbon. I've looked at all the LV show reviews and no luck... Maybe you guys have some other ideas?

Cheers
Tracey

4  Help!! What should I knit to go with this dress??? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by pixandpug on: July 30, 2005 05:22:06 AM
Hey all...

I need some help finding something to wear with this dress. I am getting married in it in freezing cold (to an Australian anyway) Parisian winter in January. I will have a big jacket (hopefully) to go over the top but I think I will need something to cover my arms when inside. I was thinking a short mohair/silk cardie with a velvet ribbon tie but don't know where to start looking for the pattern...any suggestions? I am also making the dress because I don't have the $3000 to buy it. I don't suppose anyone has seen another version of it where the front of the thing is more visible? At the moment I am making it up. Oh - it's Louis Vuitton by the way.

Cheers,
Tracey
