61  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Extra eyelash/furry yarn? I made this scarf... on: May 24, 2005 02:08:26 PM
For Christmas, I had made a bunch of those scarfs out of eyelash yarn for people.  Using US 20 needles (yeah, they're huge), it takes about a skein and a half to make a whole one.  So I ended up with a bunch of half skeins of eyelash yarn.  I used up 2 of them with this project...

(Sorry, I was taking that picture with the timer and my dog decided to hop in, and I just couldn't crop him out.  Cheesy)

Here's a closer look... maybe a little too close.

Basically, it's all knitted in garter stitch... the pattern goes sorta like this:

start with a base yarn... i used a homespun something or other, just from like Joannes etc.
knit 3 rows
add in first color eyelash yarn, still knitting with the base yarn
knit 3 rows
cut/tie off/weave in whatever your preference the eyelash yarn
knit 3 rows plain
add in second color eyelash yarn, still knitting with base yarn
knit 3 rows
cut/tie off/weave in eyelash yarn
Repeat until desired length.

This is a super-easy project and knits fast.  Oh yeah, I think I used US size 10 needles or something.

I love it!  The combination of the quilting with the embroidery is wonderful!

I like your initials!  Nice touch!

Thanks!  I thought it needed something extra at the bottom!   Smiley

I love it... I am so making one.  I play guitar and bass guitar, so I find it even more super cool.  Nice idea.  Smiley

This is my first *real* posting on crafster.  I 'discovered' embroidering this summer, and so far this has been my favorite project.  The butterfly part is very similar to a patten from DMC Linea website.  The rest I designed myself.  Smiley

67  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / Re: Why you need circs to make a hat... on: May 23, 2005 05:56:19 PM
A few months ago, I decided it was time to move on from knitting scarves to knitting *gasp* hats.  I bought some great, cheap, wool yarn.  After that, though, I was broke.  I didn't have any circs or dpns, and I didn't have enough money.  So, I decided to just knit a big sort of square, and decrease every so often.  Woo-hoo, I was saved, right Shocked?  No!  When I seamed it, it resembled a pancake with some sort of skin disease.  My mom claimed she likes it, but she has to. Tongue

I've knitted hats on both dpn and straight needles... you can find patterns for hats with straight needles--- I like knitting them on straight needles though... they go sooo much faster.  If you can't find a pattern online, i can post a pattern for you.  Smiley
