211  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Ridiculously easy mary-jane slippers! (with pattern) on: May 31, 2005 11:05:09 AM
I finished these lovely mary janes last week, but dawdled getting my pics developed. I love them, they're comfy and so easy to make. My daughter asked me to make her a pair and modifying the pattern was easy too.

This pair is made with Lion Brand Lion Boucle. Best part, the bumpy texture allows for crappy sewing skills. Smiley

212  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Unbiased from Knitty question on: May 30, 2005 09:33:42 AM
I'm just finishing the strap on this bag and think I can answer both questions.

First, after knitting a 7.5" right triangle, you start increasing only on one side, this creates the straight middle part.

Second, I could never find a use for both sets, so I just knit the whole thing with sz. 8s and it turned out great.

Hope that helps.

I agree with your cautionary feelings about going too reddish. I say bring the pics to the colorist, ask for strawberry blond, but a cool strawberry blond - not so warm. It'll look faboo.

ick. that dress is pretty appalling.
216  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: what's your favourite knitting tip or trick? on: May 26, 2005 06:19:39 AM
In addition to the milk jug and soda bottle ideas for keeping your yarn in one place, a more portable option is a zip-top ziploc baggie. Not the ones you pinch, but the one with the zipper. You just put your yarn in the bag and zip almost all the way closed, leaving room for the tail to move freely. Plus, ziplocs come in a lot of sizes and their cheap.

I have successfully completed one MJ since seeing this pattern yesterday. They look so great. I'll post a pick when both are finished.

Quite a few chicas in my knitting group want to make them too.

I almost forgot, Skycraft Surplus, near the intersection of Fairbanks Ave and I-4 has lots of odds and ends that are fun to play with.

New Orlando Area knitting shop, cause I can't stand to go to Sip n' Knit either:

Knit
Fox Valley Drive, Longwood

I don't have the exact address, but its across Fox Valley from the 7-11 just off Wekiva Springs Road. The owners are two crafty sisters who thought a knitting store would be better than retirement - even better, they're wicked nice.
