As hilarious as this is, I cannot believe that no one has referred to it as "chicken fingers," which is what came to my mind when I first saw the pic. 

This is so awesome!  I was the same way when I was younger, I had mymother whip me up the most bizarre creations. . . I demanded a broccoli costume at age 2 or 3, and I have also been a mosquito, a lightbulb, a box of valentine candy, a caffiene molecule, bart simpson, and many others that I know I have since forgotten. 

Also, a Pokeball would be the best.  costume.  ever. 

Personally, I'm a huge fan of pouches.  I could see that being easily transformed into two different little coin/etc. pouches. 
The top half could be cut off, and the bottom could be sewn shut, and a zipper sewn into the top. 
The bottom half could be a little drawstring satchel if you wove some cord from the outside to the inside around the top. . . if that makes any sense to you. . .and it could be pulled closed, like a drawstring bag. 

Whatever you do, don't let all that hard knitting work go to waste!  I'm sure you'll find something awesome to do with it!
