21  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Can you explain this bit? on: June 16, 2006 09:09:44 AM
I'm attempting this pattern here - http://www.dreamweaveryarns.com/catalog/pdf/goodbyeyellowbrickroad.pdf
(from a post by faraboverubies) and i'm ok up until it says, (on second side) knit 10 (ok) and then slip 10 st just worked onto the holders"
for a start - what holder? ( i tried another knitting needle) so i'm following the instructions and carry on with the remaining instructions...
then later on it states "slip 10 stitches from first holder onto empty needle and knit"
now when i follow these instructions i end up with a big hole - loose yarn and ten stitches that look completely out of place.
what on earth am i doing wrong?
maybe i need a more ismple explanation? if you can help - plse post Smiley

23  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / adding garter stitch edging... on: June 11, 2006 07:59:46 AM
i've looked on craftster for this but i can't seem to find how you do it.....
anyway - i'm doing a pattern scarf that calls for stockinette stitching, it's so long since i've done scarves in stockinette that i'd forgotten that it curled Sad anyway - it is curling and i've heard that adding a garter stitch "border" helps with it... can someone just please explain how/where i add the stitches... thanks Smiley

25  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Burglar-type hat completed! woohoo! on: June 08, 2006 11:38:37 AM
i started this yesterday - plus i have exams and am revising, so this was pretty quick n easy to do....
so here's the piccies!

me in the hat - not a great piccy of me - but you see what it looks like

this isn't that great a picture is it???

and finally - the creme de la creme -

26  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / itsy bitsy teeny weeny... playing cards :) on: June 06, 2006 10:15:37 AM
Hi - I got these cards from a Christmas cracker this year - they're too small (and slippery) to play with, but I don't wanna throw them away - they're so cute:-

this is the box they came in, and this....

is me trying to show you the scale of them...
well then you crafty bunch... any ideas?
27  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Stitch And BOTCH / *lmao* the strangest mittens I've ever seen :) on: June 06, 2006 09:18:26 AM
Now I'd been looking enviously at the mittens other talented craftsters had made... and thought "I could do that"....
well i collected together some pretty wool (the colour of refreshers) and added stripes - well a girl's gotta have stripes...
I figured that if I knitted the two shapes I could sew them together... so i dutifully measured my hand and turned up with this Smiley

so i sewed it together (i'm not much of a sewer either) and didn't know whether to laugh or cry when i put it on Smiley

Enjoy!
28  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Help! k1p1 nightmare!!! on: May 17, 2006 12:01:37 PM
Hi I've looked this up (is it sometimes called ribbing? - k2p2..)

Anyway, I've tried for a while to get this stitch sorted, but somehow I keep managing to mess it up - and it's so infuriating because there's so many things I want to do - and I can't do them because of this stupid stitch! *grumbles*
Yes I'm fed up - can someone please tell me where I'm going wrong...

I co and do fine, then when I try and do this stitch, the wool seems to end up going incredibly thick - difficult to knit and ends up with massive holes in it - that aint what it looks like in the picture!!
please help Smiley
29  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / Blair/Cameron stencils?? -British Politics!! on: March 10, 2006 05:00:49 AM
Hi,
I posted this in the politics section a while back -
, I study politics (British mainly but I've been learning about the USA system - is tres interesting) but I wanna turn up to class/exam/canteen wearing a witty t-shirt...but can i find any stencils??
I know you crafty lot will say (a) use the search engine - done that!
(b) make your own (you don't know what you're dealing with - i've never stencilled before!)
so any tips on how to (a) find some cool n quirky stencils
(b) perhaps make em (in v.v.v.v. simple terms!)
thanks!

Since then I've checked out Zombie teeth's awesome - "read this first post" - and I have...
Am loving the American stencils - just wondered if anyone knew where I could find any British ones....
Thanks
