I sort of know how to knit, so it'd be great to get some insight from real live knitters. Is this accessible by T? I live in Kenmore, and I think the 57 bus goes through Brighton... I don't think I can make it today though.

Awesome! I do a lot of thrifting in Allston so it will be great to have a crafty resource without having to shlep downtown or to Cambridge.

You could use some plywood to make some tall boxes that fit over the existing headboard and footboard. They'd slip right on and you could secure them in place. You could easily cover them in fabric or paint them however you want.

I've seen a number of tutorials on Craftster about making braided and woven rugs. Run a search and you should be able to find them.

I made one! I started it last night and finished it today. It's about 3 inches tall and 4 inches wide, covered with 2 coats of regular Mod Podge. I think I'm going to give it some spray shellac stuff too. It will probably be used to hold jewelry on my desk.

I can't wait to make more!
