1  Homemade Sketchbooks in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by the_dez on: August 22, 2012 02:06:36 PM
I recently realized that I need prompts to do any kind of "diary-esque" writing. When I stumbled upon the 30 day drawing challenge: http://blog.allisonlehman.com/2011/04/30-day-drawing-challenge/, the only way I know I would do it was if it was in a sketchbook/diary format.

So I made these little booklets with the daily prompts on each page, I made about five and plan to give away four as gifts and keep one for myself Smiley

I'm pretty excited b/c the books were made entirely from recycled materials (except the glue and ink to print the prompts).

 Hope you like them Smiley

2  Bent Shuttle? (pics) in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by the_dez on: December 10, 2010 09:40:16 PM
So, my sewing machine's been working ok...but sometimes it makes these clunking noises, so i figured the bobbin case must be weird, so i'd adjust it. then during one of these routine adjustments I noticed the shuttle (?) (the thing that holds the bobbin case) looked kinda bent...but I'm not sure.  when I try to compare what it looks like now to the diagrams in my manual (perfectly round) it looks bent but i can't tell....

(without bobbin)

(with bobbin)

looks more bent with the bobbin

any ideas?

Hey Everyone!
Thought I would share this contest about this awesome organization that collects new and used clean bras for women who need them.

They are having a T-shirt designing contest!
And the designs don't have to all be about the organization, they have three categories:
Bra Recycling

For A Smile

Anyway check out the details:

6  Postcard Birthday Card in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by the_dez on: August 02, 2010 01:28:34 AM
Hey Everyone,
just finished this postcard-esque birthday card I made for my mum.
Used materials from around ze house and fashioned it after those old-fashioned travel postcards, like this one:
http://www.bri.ucla.edu/nha/ishn/la-postcard.jpg

Here's mine:

(sorry for the bad quality of photo, i used my computer)

After I finished it I thought about how much more awesome and love goes into making something for someone or even for yourself.....but yeah thought I'd share that. I'm really proud of this one.
Keep on crafting everyone, someone out there does appreciate it.

7  Recent Projects in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by the_dez on: July 05, 2010 12:49:44 AM
Just some shirts that I completed. Two of them are reconstructions of former reconstructions. I redid them mainly because I planned to redo them once I started using a sewing machine. I hand sewed them the first time. And just one reconstruction that I'm pretty stoked came out great Smiley enjoy!!!

Before:

After:
Although I initially wanted to keep it a dress I chickened out at the last minute and decided to make into a tank. The dress form it was in was ok...but I couldn't convince myself that I actually wear it...so I changed it.

Now a tank:
Not quite finished because of the flaps under the armpits as well as the rough edges on the top, but I feel it's close enough to post. Tongue Wink

(it's not tight! i was just standing funny Tongue)

Before:
I was trying to make a long sleeve shirt with a cowl neck, but didn't turn out as I imagined...

After:
Kept the cowl neck idea but decided to go sleeveless and hemmed up everything in black.

So I don't have a before picture of this one (forgot!  Tongue) but it was just a standard black t-shirt, nothing new.

After:
I used the instructions from Generation T: Beyond Fashion

10  Diagnosing problem--zigzag stitch in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by the_dez on: December 15, 2009 12:16:27 AM
Hi, I have been having this problem for two days now  Undecided
Sewing sweater fleece (sweatshirt) material
and using a zigzag stitch...but it turns out looking like this:

the zigzag isn't exactly happening... Huh
at first I thought it was the upper thread tension, so I changed it from a normal (4) to a 3, but that didn't work...so then i thought maybe it was the needle so i changed that as well...and that didn't work...so now i just don't know...if anyone has any ideas please let me know! thank you!

p.s. sorry for the bad quality pictures >_<
