1  Oh My! Mei Tai: Asian Baby Carrier (a bit pic hvy) in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by Eat_My_Shorts on: July 21, 2010 12:46:25 PM
So my son who is 9 months loves to be worn (aka babywearing). He fights the stroller when it is not moving like he is being restrained in a straightjacket. I was all for wearing the Snugli on the front until he hit like 18 pounds and if I wanted to do anything like a normal person like dishes or eating, not happening. So I flipped the Snugli to the back. He loooved it. and so did I. He could just chill on mommy's back and I felt like I was just wearing a knapsack. So it was no problem. Until he hit like 21 pounds. Mind you the Snugli was not made to be reversed : ) So I was doing myself no good.

I knew baby wearing was nothing new or trendy, it was an ancient way of getting stuff done while you hold your kid. So I just threw him on my back the old fashioned way with a scarf and another to support his head when he fell asleep (African Style with the scarf tied above the breasts) It worked really good actually and my husband even tried it. In downtown Toronto on Young Street....but our son fell asleep no problem so whatevr. But after awile I found my back starting to ache. I came across the Asian Baby Carrier call a Mei Tai and exclaimed " Holy Crap that is just a rectangle with 4 ties coming out of it! I can make that." So i researched some tutorials and looked at youtube on how to tie one properly.

So 1 bed sheet, a little strong canvas and some decorative fabric later, I have a new best friend!

Out with the old (Goodbye old friend)

In with the new!

My babe literally fell asleep 5 mins after going in. I take it as a good sign

Size

K so the top ties are long. Really long. Like I could climb down from the 2nd floor bedroom window long.

I wore it to the bank today and got some funny looks from a few mothers pushing strollers : )

Hope you all have a wonderful day,

All the best,

Wabe.

2  Lots of shiny stuff...(page is image packed) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Eat_My_Shorts on: April 19, 2008 06:23:09 PM
Hey all!

I just recently bought a glue gun after years without ever using one, and boy was that a bad idea because now I'm addicted and the only way I will ever stop is if you pry my dead-dried hot glue and minor burned hands off of it.

But on a lighter note... :  )

I have also become infatuated with wire. It is so maluable, I love to make all kinds of crap out of it! Lol, But am I the only one, or do you ever find that you are so crazy about one craft, or one item to make, then after you have made a few your like..meh...lets find something else? I am like that with music, food, everything like it gets old after a while, once im finished consuming it. Is that bad, or am I just fine-tuning my sense of style, craft or whatever?

Here are my goodies, my babies, my loves. Comments are appriciated, even if just to say I suck..joking, but hey who knows.

Rings...

I just played around with wire until I got the fit and look I wanted.
NOTE: If you ever make one of these rings, please try it on while you are making it. My first couple of trys, I was like "Oh, isnt this a nice combination", then I put it on after minutes of tiresome work to see that my ring looked like a shiny tumor on my finger. Key= simplicity. Im talking 5 beads max.

Im a nerd and made them EARTH FIRE WATER AIR

3  Reconstruction Extravaganza!(7 pics) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by Eat_My_Shorts on: January 27, 2007 12:18:59 PM

Hey!
These are a few of the reconstruction I have made and I hope you enjoy them!

This was a HUGE Nike sweater that I took in and gave an off-the-shoulder neckline.

This was a jacket that I made from a pattern, then I cut in half (and I am still contemplating my decision...)

This was, well...somthing. I dont really know what kind of shirt it was originally but it ended up being a preg_replace('/(.{19})/', '$1 ', 'vest...type...thingy.')

Ahh, the good ol' skirt to shirt recon. The belt was made from an black t-shirt and some scraps of fabric.

The black shirt was taken in from it's original size and the purple shirt was made from a big t-shirt. I beaded a design on the bust with sead beads.

The black top was an old big sweater that I turned into a smaller sweater ( it is soo soft and roomy!)
The yellow shirt was a huge yellow shirt that I made into a 50's inspired tank.

Last ( but not least I hope.. : ) is a tube top made from a larger t-shirt.

Thanks for looking and any comments would be super!

It's white so it can be died ( with colour not killed ) It is some kind of really soft fabric on the front and denim in the inside, BUt it is pleated on the front as you can see here:

I need your wonderful creative I deas about how to JAZZ this baby up! Any ideas would be so freakin' great you don't know. It has been sitting in my closet looking sad and I think it has potential. BUt my creative juices have tried and tried again but with no luck.

ANy comments would be preg_replace('/(.{19})/', '$1 ', 'superkalafragalistic.')

And 1 more pic because I had 3!.

Re: Thank you soo much you made my sad hobo bag HAPPY!!! I Took your advice and added lace to the bottom and then realized I had a coinpurse that  also was white with black trim ( wow cool is that?Huh??) so I attached it to the bag with fishing wire!
