Project Name: Mermaid-icorns?
Project Description: I was having fun making these chubby little mermaids with a unicorn horn and then coloring them with crayons!  Just a fun activity...but now I want to do more!  And better. And bigger.  So what would you call them. Unimaids? Mermacorns? Mermaidicorns? And would they be dark creatures...I mean mermaids traditionally drown sailors...or would they be more healers? Could they detect poison? I would think that the mermaids have their own distinct lore and fantastical creatures to tell their young at bed time. Would these be terrifying or awe-inspiring?  I can just imagine little young merchildren playing in the kelp pretending to be one of these with a bit of waterlogged driftwood tied around their head...

Project Description: I made some little handmade cards with some yellow paper (Hufflepuff) and some really pretty origami paper that I had that was red (Gryffindor) with green and blue details...leaves and fans...on it (Slytherin and Ravenclaw.)  The image is turned...they are more long than tall...

Challenge: Quidditch Pre-season Studies

Project Name:  Customized HP Craftalong Journal
Project Description: For several semesters now I have kept up with my Professor Class Prompts, class prompts, and other HPC challenges in various spiral notebooks that I have had drifting around my house.  All of them have been partially used for other things. Grocery lists, to-do lists, vacation lists, bucket lists...all kinds of things end up in those spiral notebooks.  But this semester I found that I had official run out of random notebooks!  So I started to poke around...and found that I have a stash of ugly, and never before used, journals!  Oh, the happiness! Oh, the joy! To have a journal just for my craftalong get-a-longs!  So I picked one.  It's smallish, lined, and had a very blech cover.  I don't know how a goldenrod yellow, pea green, and black striped journal ended up in my possession, but there it was.  So I painted the fabric cover with some craft paint to make it like a bit of folded parchment and then stamped and free-handed (with acrylic craft paint) the most awesome and devilish of phrases, "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good."  (it wasn't until I just now...as I post the picture...that I realized that I misspelled solemnly...I'll have to fix that with a little brush...) 

This journal is a nod to Gertie Keddle, who quite accidentally, recorded the first versions of the game of Quidditch in her journal in 1050!  It's amazing that it survived! Just goes to show that journaling can be an excellent way to keep track of things that may seem mundane at the time...but turn out to be "game changers"  Grin

Project Name: Custom Lamp Shade
Project Description: After I was done with my owl lamp I had to alter a lamp shade to match!  And muggles are always putting shades on their lamps...So I painted my lamp shade.  Its got stars, clouds, and fringe. Perfect for a bedside table.  Now I'm going to curl up with a snuggly blanket, an overstuffed pillow, and Atlas Shrugged (My newest classic to tackle.)  Cheesy

Project Name: Perfect Vegan Banana Bread
Project Description:  I have finally perfected my banana bread recipe.  It's the perfect amount of delicious banana, dense cake-iness, and candylike crust!  It must be noted that you MUST let this bread cool completely before you cut it!  It just doesn't keep the same texture if you cut it while still warm...believe me...I've made that mistake!

2 Flax eggs--- 2Tbsp ground flaxseed meal
                    4 Tbsp almond milk
1/2 cup vegan butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cup very ripe bananas (about 3 medium bananas) mashed
1/2 cup vegan sour cream (I used tofutti brand)
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking powder

*I don't like nuts but if you do, add 1 cup chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 350oF

In a small bowl whisk together the flaxseed meal and almond milk.  Set aside and let sit for about 5 minutes. (This is your egg replacement!)

In a large bowl, mix together your butter, sugars, and vanilla.  Add your flax egg mixture (it should have become kind of jelly like, as the flax absorbed most of the milk and made a gelatinous substance.) Mix in the mashed bananas and sour cream until smooth. Stir in the baking soda, baking powder, salt, and flour until everything is moistened. Stir in nuts, if using.

Grease a 9x5x3 inch loaf pan.  (I used vegetable oil, but anything will work) Pour batter into loaf pan. Place in center of oven for 1 and a quarter hour. Or until toothpick inserted into center of bread comes out clean.  Cool for 15 minutes. Loosen bread from sides of pan (i always have to use a knife) and place on cooling rack, top up, and let cool completely before enjoying!

My favorite way to enjoy a slice is lightly toasted with a little strawberry jam!
(I made two loaves! But by the time I went to take a picture one loaf had mysteriously disappeared...THAT good!)

Project Name: Customized Owl Lamp
Project Description: I have been wanting a cute lamp for my room for a while and finally found this adorable white owl lamp at walmart that was perfect for customizing...since finding something premade seemed to be impossible! 

So I used acrylic craft paint and some metallic paint for the gold. And made me my own cute owl lamp. It matches my rooms color scheme (mostly Sailor Moon...and Barbie....) And it fits the bean by being both very brightly colored and lights up!!!


It doesn't have a shade yet...that is my next project!  Already bought one to work from!

Project Name: Golden Rhino "god"
Project Description: Somehow I imagine a futuristic dystopian society where the Rhino has been extinct for so long that it has become an animal of mythical proportions.  It is commonly used as a household god in this world.  I made one for my imaginary family alter in this future.  A bejeweled golden rhino to protect and give strength to my household.  This was a plastic toy that I painted gold and then glued SO MANY plastic cabochons onto it.  It is almost identical on both sides (some color variations...but the pattern is the same)

In order to share all the awesome recipes that your Head of House just turned in for her OWL, I will be including a new section to the Slytherin Common Room.  It will be a "Snack Board" that you can go and check out a new recipe once or twice a week!  I'm excited!  Everything, for the time being, will be vegetarian or vegan!

Project Name:  Hot Air Balloon Painting
Brief Description:  (Hot-Air Charm)

    Description: Causes wand to emit hot air.

So. I made this little drawing waaaaay back in June 2014.  I meant to come back to the idea much sooner but just didn't get to it.

I am going to show my knowledge of the Hot-air Charm by focusing my attention on painting a multimedia painting with watercolors and acrylic paint that reflects the idea of a hot-air balloon race from Teddy Cuddlestuff and his friends in my imaginary world.  It will be an 18x24 inch painting.  I want to do a watercolor wash for the background on watercolor paper and then gesso out the sections that I want to have acrylic.  After that I will paint with acrylics the details to my painting. I've never used this technique before, but I have heard it described so it may be harder than I think it will be.  I will have to study and perfect my hot-air balloons as well as the desert/canyon landscape that I want to include.  I think that it will take me about a week to get the idea down on paper the way I want it.  Then I'll spend a couple of weeks working out all the painting.  I really don't know how long this will take me.  If it works up faster than expected I will paint a few smaller "vignette" paintings showing various creatures with their balloons and how they interact with Teddy.  Regardless, they will all have Hot-Air balloons in them.  Cheesy

I finished my OWL yesterday!!!!!

OWL Subject & Option (if available):  Herbology
Project Name: Mug Recipe Birthday Gift
Brief Description: (how it fits the requirements, pattern/techniques used, any fun tips, etc.) So I got a book from the library called "250 Best Meals in a Mug"  MommaAquaheart really loves easy to make meals and I just knew that she could really use the recipes if I took out the ones I knew she would like and make sure they were extra yummy.  So I wrote out about 100 of the recipes in the book and hoped that they would all work and taste amazing.  I was challenged even more by having to redo MOST of the recipes to have NO meats and, as often as possible, make them vegan.  I tried them all.  Some, sadly, just couldn't make the conversion (nixing egg from a recipe that small...and in the microwave...just wouldn't translate)  I finalized a total of 78 recipes.  (I saved many of the ones I thought wouldn't work for the end...I had to throw out a total of 18 recipes  Cry)  I wrote them out again onto index cards, organized them into types, made dividers, and then placed them into an index card holder.  I made a few extra dividers so that MommaAquaheart can add more recipes in the future! AND if I come across any more recipes I think she may like I can add them to the box!  I wanted to customize an index card holder for her...but sadly, I couldn't find a blank box to work from. But she loves the see-through box.  I love the fact that it has room to expand her collection.  Grin
Project Picture: I wanted to take pictures of her making some recipes...but she keeps making them when I'm not looking!! Undecided Cheesy So I'll have to keep trying!

All the work was in the over and over again to perfect the recipes...in the end all the recipes from the book were altered in some way.  Only, I think, four ended up not being vegan...only vegetarian.
