32  Adult Costume: Big-Eyed Lamb in Halloween Costumes by irid3sc3nt on: October 29, 2007 02:31:11 PM
This is my costume for Halloween this year.  The inspiration was vintage ceramic lambs with the huge huge eyes and long long lashes.

The mask was made first using gauze strips that were already treated with Plaster of Paris and just needed to get wet.  After the initial part, I used a lot of muslin with Elmer's glue layered carefully to create the shape of the mask.  Once the muslin was all dry and thick enough that I felt comfortable with it, I layered on white acrylic paint.  I'm not sure how many layers there are, but enough to where I sanded it a few times in between so it set smooth.  The rest of the paint is acrylic with a shiny coat of Elmer's.  The eyelashes were made from black feathers cut very thin.

The body was NOT from a pattern.  I have no use for patterns.  What I did use, though, was a pair of pants which I set over the fabric, cut out the pants shape and sewed up the inside of the legs.  I also used one of my hoodies as a template for the top.  The top required a bit more work as there was a chest piece, the two arm pieces, and the hooded part that all needed to be sewn together.

The ears are not stuffed but I did handstitch on the piece of pink felt, then handstitched it to the hood.  The tail IS stuffed and was handstitched to the butt.

The yellow bow was machine-sewn as well as my mittens.  One side is the white faux fur, the other side was the natural-colored muslin that I had used for the mask.  I traced around my hand and then sewed it up.  The palm has spots of puffy paint on it, which enabled me to grip things easier.

I wore pink shoes because my hoof plan didn't pan out in time.

33  Re: Vintage Halloween Swap 2007 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by irid3sc3nt on: September 21, 2007 05:03:41 PM
Ok, here they are, from WYOKrista

Shocked click on thumbnails to enlarge, please Shocked

pillowcases with awesome cat fabric-- some have jeweled eyes!
The fabric is amazing and I love the little embroidery she did along the sides.. and the jeweled eyes, lol.  Totally reminds me of a cat in dark being flashed with a light.

found object rusty can with flowers, stars, and vintage halloween graphics!
It has this neat texture to it and I can't place what it is...

punchneedle embroidered (her specialty) framed bat entitled "Yikes!"
It'll replace a picture I have hanging up that's about the same size.  Eventually I want to replace all the "regular" items from the year with halloween items, so this works perfectly into that idea.

googly-eyed door hanger that says "Boo to You!"

purple bejeweled skeleton complete with teeny martini

Halloween mag!

microscope slide pendant side 1 and 2
I'm not sure if I want to wear the pendant as a necklace or hang it up in the middle of our living room from the fan  (umm... I still have an icicle hanging there from last christmas, dunno why i haven't taken it down, it's easily within reach....).

Thank you, WYOKrista!

a small bottle of lotion
green yarn---natural
a gardening cd for your pc with all sorts of info
orange-cinammon clove soap (smells yummy)

38  Re: Personal/Private Swap Gallery - May 2007 in The Swap Gallery by irid3sc3nt on: June 12, 2007 06:33:06 PM
I sent starlisa a second package for the Video Game Swap Rnd 2, kindof as a personal "sorry about everything that happened".. personal swap.

I sent a black shirt (it's not really grey) with a freehand bleach stencil of HUNK from Resident Evil,  a hand-painted wooden wall-clock featuring Parappa the Rapper, a pair of stitched felt chicks (stuffed with stuffing and navy beans) inspired by Harvest Moon, a pair of embroidery floss-woven blood-drop earrings inspired by Resident Evil, and an Umbrella Corp pinback button.  The graphic for it was googled.

It was my first time making a wall clock, freehanding a design in bleach, and making those kind of earrings so I'm pretty proud of myself  Grin

I received from devilninny!

She sent me some sparkly pony beads that came on the day that I was watching my nephew and niece.  We made bracelets and, well, after the mess, they're in this heap somewhere...

She also sent me two dangly earrings.  I'm thinking about combing them into one pair of super-dangly earrings.  I think the metal swirly bead earring is my favorite...  how did you make it, devilninny?

Thank you!

Pics of the goods MissNewEngland sent to me!
Here it is all together:

Maplestory wooden-framed mirror
green lace doiley
Maplestory mushroom secret stasher
pipe holder-- no, no, it's a holder that looks like a Mario pipe
3 Mario pens:  fireflower, mushroom, and pirahna plant
crazyhuge goomba earrings!
magnetic clasp necklace n bracelet set

The closeups:

This was the first thing I unwrapped and immediately put it on.  It's heavy, magnetic, and fits perfectly.  I totally felt like Princess Zelda.

MissNewEngland knew I had a thing for huge 80s-esque earrings and she made me these goombas!  I can't wait to rock out!  She also included a smaller set in case I wanted to make them into posts or clasps.  The three pens are awesome, I was teasing my cat with the pirahna plant.  They're very shiny, too.  I needed new pens for around my desk because I think my cat is secretly hoarding mine away somewhere...  Lastly, it's a pipe holder!  This baby was cleverly crafted around a shot glass...  or is it really a shot glass in style?  Either way, it's awesome!

I play this mmorpg called MapleStory that is ridiculously cute and reminds me alot of Mario only you can chat with other people.
The mirror was the second piece to unwrap and I giggled and squealed when I saw it.  You really have to see the painting on this upclose, was this all freehand MissNewEngland?  It's pretty darn incredible and is going right next to my computer.  Oh, on the frame are a few staple characters such as the slime, the orange mushroom, and the blue snail.  There's also Ratz, which is found in a Lego-like world called Ludibrium.
The orange mushroom is a secret stash holder because his top comes off!  The body of it is a pale peachy/ivory color with minute speckles in it that make it shimmer.  I'm really in love with the cutie!

Thank you for everything, MissNewEngland, I love it!!
