871  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Embroidery Nerdgasm!! on: September 29, 2014 07:38:02 AM
I was trying to find a biography for him besides the very short and very limited one given on Wikipedia and a couple other sites. It seems he's largely ignored, which is sad.
Now I have a strong urge to go watch The Bride of Frankenstein...

Here is another travel anecdote which is adorable or  Shocked :

...the heat at Chenonceaux was unbearable.  My companion was busy painting in the courtyard of the hotel, where the wisteria hung in fragrant festoons, but I drifted down to the river where I thought it might be cooler.  The wide stretch of water looked very inviting, and not a soul was in sight.  So I threw off my clothes and prepared for a bathe.  My inherent modesty forbade my plunging in without anything on at all, so I plaited a wreath of wild roses and put it round my head.

Oh my! Shocked

I've never understood the taboo about men doing any sort of needlepoint. Then again, I grew up with an uncle who did cross-stitch alongside his wife, who often mock complained about his superior stitching Smiley

Now I need to make me a hat from some fluffy yarn because that thing is cozy.
