Ooh LovelyMiss those scarfs are fabulous! I need to make some of those Swiffer things! They look amazing and will surely cost much, much less than the refill packs!

Calabaza, love that macaron! I love things with radioactive symbols on them. I used to draw that symbol on my folders and binders in school Cheesy That etui is pretty cool! That's another project that I definitely need to tackle. I'm always losing my needles Tongue

That's what I love about this thread: I see awesome nerdy things and want to make myself at least half of the awesome stuff I see Cheesy

Prompt: January Battle Royale- WARM vs Cold
Team:Wordy
Project Name:  Long stem red rose
Project Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=437898.0
I am NOT a fan of cold weather. AT ALL. I mean, yes, it's more sane to wear lots of black when it's cold out but I just love warmth/heat. (My dad says I'm part dragon.) Though I've got seasonal allergies, I love when the weather gets warm because my mom's rose bush goes into full bloom and it looks spectacular. Actually, the crazy thing blooms in the cold sometimes, too, but there are more roses on it in the warm weather. So, in the spirit of warmth, have a long stem red rose!

Ta-da! Long stem red rose for my boyfriend!

I'll post up a step-by-step tut in itspostlater for how I did the leaves but for now, I'm must be off to work!

I found this crocheted rose pattern and followed it to create the bloom. However, I didn't like the leaf pattern because the leaves beneath a rose bloom do NOT look like that (or at least the ones on my mother's rosebush don't look that way!) That is the sort of leaves found on the stem of a rose. So I made my own pattern (I'll post step-by-step photos later: I'm getting ready for work):
Chain 10
Sl st in first ch, sc in next ch, dc in next 2 chs, trc in next 2 chs, dc in next ch, sc in next ch, f/o

The leaves are going to curl up/around a bit but that's okay because the real ones do that. I made five but some blooms only have four leaves. Sew them together in a star shape (or a sort of cross if you only do four) then sew them on the underside of the bloom.
For the stem, I chained 38 (I think) then did two rows of dc then folded it in half and sewed down the length. There's a piece of heavy wire (recycled from something or other my dad was doing) to support the bloom.

He was a man before his time, obviously! That's some sound advice.
