KK, as always, I'm in love with your jewelry Cheesy

Here's my latest work:

It pays homage to Red Hot Riding Hood and Rabbit, one of my favorite characters from LJ Phillips' webcomic.

92  Oh Wolfy! in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by FreakieGeekie on: October 28, 2013 03:17:22 AM

"Oh Wolfy! Oh Wolfy, ain't you the one?"
Rabbit's nickname for his boyfriend Tyr makes me think of the Tex Avery cartoons "Red Hot Riding Hood" and "Swing Shift Cinderella", both of which feature Miss Red (she's never given a name).
So naturally when I saw the Skins AU Gender Swap Challenge on DeviantArt I figured a female Rabbit would dress up as Red for Halloween and sing to her Wolfy at Lloyd's bar, most likely ON the bar, much to everyone's amusement and Tyr's embarrassment, of course.

To get the hair, costume, and pose as close as possible to Red's, I referenced quite a few screenshots from Red Hot Riding Hood. Not that I'm complaining because she's one of my favorite cartoon characters of all time.
I tried to make her look like she is winking at Tyr as she's singing but I'm not sure that I succeeded. I know her right (our left) hand looks off but I've always struggled with hands. At least her left hand looks halfway decent. (I've left off Rabbit's tattoo again. I can't ever get it right!)

If you don't know Red, I guarantee you know of at least one character based on her or have seen her make a cameo.
Jessica Rabbit is based on Red as is Cameron Diaz's character Tina in the movie The Mask.
She makes quite a few appearances under the name Miss Vavoom in the Droopy & Dripple sketches of The Tom and Jerry Kids Show.
Red makes a cameo in Quest for Camelot during Devon and Cornwall's "If I didn't have you" number.

This art is fanart of the character Rabbit (who is a Smoke, which is a type of vampire; Tyr, his Wolfy, is a Skin, which is a type of werewolf) from LJ Phillips' webcomic "Skins" and the companion strip, "Under My Skin". (Be warned that some of the pages contain images that are NSFW.) Rabbit is property of LJ Phillips and this piece is a tribute to her character and "Miss Red". Please don't alter, copy, or redistribute it as your own.

93  Re: The Ongoing Poppet and Punkin-Along in Craftalongs by FreakieGeekie on: October 18, 2013 01:16:40 AM
I've been wanting to make this guy for a while but just found the materials in my stash and finally made him.

This cute little fellow is Yarne from Fire Emblem: Awakening. I made him for my sister. We're both in love with him because he's a BUNNY warrior. I also happen to dig his name. What crocheter can resist a cutie with a name like that?
If you want to know more about him, go here.

95  Don't mess with a bunny! (Yarne Punkin) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by FreakieGeekie on: October 17, 2013 02:58:42 AM
Warning: mild Fire Emblem: Awakening spoilers ahead.

This adorable little guy is a Taguel named Yarne. He's available after chapter 14 of the game if you've had a male character reach "S" support with Panne.
Taguel are a race of shape-shifters who transform into large rabbits during battle. Panne is very brave but her son Yarne is afraid of everything because he is the last hope for the Taguel race (unless "MyUnit" is her husband, then he also has a sister). Yarne will have a tuft of hair at his crown that matches his father's hair color (for example, my character, Zeke, had purple hair so my Yarne has a purple tuft.)

I made this little guy for my sister, who is just as in love with him as me.
He doesn't look exactly like he does in the game because I left off his leggings/boots and chest plate because he's so small (he's half-size since I didn't have much of the tan colored suede). I also left off the fur on his legs at my sister's request. She said "If you put any more fur on him that's all there will be!"
His cute little eyes are made from small, shiny shank buttons that I had in my button stash.

His ears are also different than in game. In game, his ears are solid cream/beige colored but the only other fake fur I had was cream with black flecks and my sister didn't care so that's what he has. He also doesn't have a colored tuft at the front of his hair for the same reason.

My favorite part is his fluffed up tail, which you can't really see in the photo. I think it's because the fur on his bum is also long.  Roll Eyes

96  Re: Writing Magic - NaNoWriMo 2013 (SO Oct3) in The Swap Gallery by FreakieGeekie on: October 13, 2013 11:52:05 PM
Finally rolled over! I hated that I couldn't do this sooner so here goes!

There was the great No Plot, No Problem book, which is clearly visible in the first shot. I am SO thankful for that! I had a copy but I left it someplace or other and hadn't replaced it yet.  Kiss
There's also the energy flavor stuff for water which will come in handy.

I am in love with the key necklace! ♥♥ It also has a plate (?) with "reality has limits, imagination is boundless".
One of my favorite things is the quote cards. She left some of them blank, too, so I can add my own! And she even sent some of the pretty paper and cardstock that she used to decorate them! ♥♥ Seriously, it made me super excited to find that in the box! ♥♥

In the awesome Tardis box is my own personal dragon! ♥♥ He's purple and has pretty pearl beads along his wings. ♥♥
My favorite thing is this mug with the gorgeous designs and the quote "Expect anything from anyone the devil was an angel too" and a pair of wings ♥♥

100  Mage's cloak in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by FreakieGeekie on: August 08, 2013 09:40:59 AM
To me, Craftster means there's a place I can share my geekiness and be inspired by the geekiness of others. Here I can post crafts related to my different interests and no one thinks "Oh, you were crazy to make that! You should have just bought it!" Here I can meet people from across the globe who understand the desire to make things inspired by a favorite media rather than buy it.
But Craftster also means I'm inspired to carry on the tradition of crafting, something I learned by watching my grandmother, who passed away some years ago, and my mom. My grandmother often modified patterns to suit her purpose or made her own, something many of my fellow Craftsters do and something I'm learning myself.
So in honor of my geekiness, my family's crafting tradition, and the glory of Craftster, I made a mage's cloak for Etain, my custom Monster High doll who was inspired by The Elder Scrolls games by Bethesda. The cloak was made by modifying Simplicity 9887, version B.

To make the pattern, I scanned the diagram of pattern pieces from the pattern instructions. I had found a tutorial on how to adjust patterns to fit dolls by using Photoshop or a similar program but I couldn't find it again so I had to eyeball the pattern.

The hardest part was getting the hood the proper size because 1) Monster High dolls' heads are a bit on the large side and 2) her ears stick out since she was made from a Create-A-Monster werewolf girl.

In the end, it was worth the effort because now my Dunmer has a cloak to sneak around in while on missions from the Dark Brotherhood.

So thank you Craftster and thanks to all the wonderfully geeky and crafty people who populate this site!  Kiss

For those wondering, her dress was made by the lovely Amigurl55 and I received as a part of a Monster High themed swap.

It should also be noted that this robe is completely hand sewn. I was paranoid that I'd sew my hand to my project.
