31  Holly barrettes and brooches in Winter Holidays by FreakieGeekie on: December 11, 2015 07:55:52 PM
A week ago, I made myself a holly cluster because I decided I needed something Christmas-y in the house as we don't have any decorations. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it though because we don't have the space to put up our tree (my boyfriend has a 6ft tree but his ex-wife took all the decorations when she left).
I finally decided that I should make myself a barrette out of the holly. I posted a photo of it to FB and my sister asked if I would make one for her. Then my aunt asked if I could make her a brooch pin with holly and I figured my mom would like one. I also knew that if I made one for my aunt that her two daughters would want ones of their own.

The leaves were made using this pattern that I found via Pinterest. I made the pattern for the berries myself.
The barrettes are hair bow clips like you can find in Walmart, Hobby Lobby, and other craft stores. The brooches were made with brooch pin backs that I bought at Walmart a few years ago but I haven't found any of them this year.

Here's my latest works:

I've made a post for them here, where you'll also find the patterns for the hats and stockings, minus the purple/black hat (it's my own pattern; a basic beanie pattern with color changes is all that it is).

33  Hats and stockings in Crochet: Completed Projects by FreakieGeekie on: December 11, 2015 01:29:01 AM
I've been busily hooking away this holiday season.
Actually, more accurately, with the exception of the Jack Skellington stocking, I've been hooking like a mad woman the past week in order to get things done two weeks before Christmas since my boyfriend and I are leaving for Arizona the Saturday before and will be staying with his grandparents there 'til after Christmas. This isn't all I've made: I've also made four holly brooches and two holly barrettes which I need to take pictures of but I'm working on a blanket that I have to have finished before next Saturday Tongue

The black/white hat is for me. I wanted an elf hat but didn't have enough red/green yarn and am trying to de-stash so I used black/white because I knew I had enough of those colors to make the whole hat. I used this pattern but instead of using fun fur for the brim (I don't have any in stash and hate that stuff anyway) I made two rows of alternating fpdc and bpdc to give it a ribbed brim.

The purple/black hat is made from my own pattern. My boyfriend says he "might want it" but doesn't know yet. I think he's waiting to see if I hook up any more hats before he decides.

The hat that looks like it belongs to LoZ's Link was meant for my sister but I forgot that I had already made her one in green. Since I already have one in green myself, I've asked a friend if she'd like it for her husband who is LoZ obsessed. She has yet to get back to me on it though. The pattern for it was written by the amazing smileyyogini (she's the one who made my green hat, too) and can be found here on her blog.

The teal/bright purple stocking is for my mom (she wanted bright colors), the deep purple/gold stocking is for my dad (LSU's colors as they're his favorite college team), and the Jack Skellington stocking is for my younger sister (she quite literally grew up with TNBC because it came out the year she was born and I was obsessed with it so she came to love it, too). I made them using this pattern from Red Heart yarns.

My latest creation:

I used this pattern I found via Pinterest to make the holly leaves. I made my own pattern for the berries because the pattern writer didn't include instructions for those.

I was feeling in a Christmas-y mood earlier and decided I needed to crochet something Christmas-related. So I opened my Pinterest and pulled up this pattern for holly leaves. The pattern designer suggested using beads, buttons, or felt circles for the berries. Which isn't a bad idea, I suppose, but the berries would look rather flat. So I crocheted up some little red balls so that the holly would have a more 3-D look like real holly.

I don't know if I want to turn it into a hair clip or an ornament.

Love those dragon shirts and that Lupin journal! Cheesy
That Mad Max themed stuff is really awesome! I really love the mirror decoration Smiley

Here's the awesome items I received from LadyBugsAndBumblebees (minus one item that my boyfriend has stolen):

And close-ups of everything:

Really awesome bottle cap pendants! One is Morticia and Gomez (my favorite fictional couple) and the other is Herman Munster (he's so adorably sweet).

Monster bottle cap magnets! A ghoul, a banshee, a werewolf, and Christopher Lee as Dracula Cheesy

Awesome bracelet and earrings. I'm loving the contrast of the earth toned skulls with the jewel toned beads! <3

A beautiful scarf and matching gloves. I really love that she added Jack & Sally to one corner of the scarf! Smiley

A gorgeous fabric covered journal and a cute pen to go with it! I'm glad the pen is brightly colored because I have trouble keeping up with pens! Smiley

The last item that's not pictured is "The Quintessential Wizard", a book about Wizards in the DnD world. My boyfriend says it's his now and is currently reading it but I'll get it back sooner or later!

Most of the items were wrapped in a really cute skull themed paper that I forgot to take pictures of Roll Eyes I tried saving a few pieces but I always manage to shred wrapping paper no matter how carefully I try to tear it.

Project Name: Jack Skellington Christmas stocking
The Pumpkin King has long been a favorite in my family, especially for me and my sister. My sister quite literally grew up with The Nightmare Before Christmas because it came out the year she was born. Last year, after Christmas, my sister asked me if I would make her a Christmas stocking this year and showed me a Jack Skellington stocking someone had made out of felt. While felt stockings are cute and easy to sew since felt doesn't fray, I decided to crochet her one. Mostly because I don't have a printer so I couldn't print out a stocking pattern and the one I tried drawing came out VERY wonky. Tongue I used Red Heart's Quick & Easy Stocking crochet pattern to make it.

kbrison, I love all the things you posted but that flower arrangement for your church is just too cute!

That's a cute maneki-neko, vampedangel14! I love going to Chinese and Japanese restaurants because they always have one of those cuties. (The good food doesn't hurt, either!)

My latest project is a Jack Skellington Christmas stocking for my sister:

She quite literally grew up with this movie because it came out the year she was born! It was made using Red Heart's Quick & Easy Stocking crochet pattern.
I'll post it up on the Crochet board when I finish my dad's stocking.
