101  Re: Writing Magic - NaNoWriMo 2013 (SO Oct3) in The Swap Gallery by FreakieGeekie on: October 13, 2013 11:52:05 PM
Finally rolled over! I hated that I couldn't do this sooner so here goes!

There was the great No Plot, No Problem book, which is clearly visible in the first shot. I am SO thankful for that! I had a copy but I left it someplace or other and hadn't replaced it yet.  Kiss
There's also the energy flavor stuff for water which will come in handy.

I am in love with the key necklace! ♥♥ It also has a plate (?) with "reality has limits, imagination is boundless".
One of my favorite things is the quote cards. She left some of them blank, too, so I can add my own! And she even sent some of the pretty paper and cardstock that she used to decorate them! ♥♥ Seriously, it made me super excited to find that in the box! ♥♥

In the awesome Tardis box is my own personal dragon! ♥♥ He's purple and has pretty pearl beads along his wings. ♥♥
My favorite thing is this mug with the gorgeous designs and the quote "Expect anything from anyone the devil was an angel too" and a pair of wings ♥♥

I wanted to post more pics but our data is running low and I have a couple bills to pay online. It won't roll over til the 13th so I'll get up better pics then so you guys can see the items better!
I also have an item to send on Friday that should have been in the package to chase_acow.

105  Mage's cloak in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by FreakieGeekie on: August 08, 2013 09:40:59 AM
To me, Craftster means there's a place I can share my geekiness and be inspired by the geekiness of others. Here I can post crafts related to my different interests and no one thinks "Oh, you were crazy to make that! You should have just bought it!" Here I can meet people from across the globe who understand the desire to make things inspired by a favorite media rather than buy it.
But Craftster also means I'm inspired to carry on the tradition of crafting, something I learned by watching my grandmother, who passed away some years ago, and my mom. My grandmother often modified patterns to suit her purpose or made her own, something many of my fellow Craftsters do and something I'm learning myself.
So in honor of my geekiness, my family's crafting tradition, and the glory of Craftster, I made a mage's cloak for Etain, my custom Monster High doll who was inspired by The Elder Scrolls games by Bethesda. The cloak was made by modifying Simplicity 9887, version B.

To make the pattern, I scanned the diagram of pattern pieces from the pattern instructions. I had found a tutorial on how to adjust patterns to fit dolls by using Photoshop or a similar program but I couldn't find it again so I had to eyeball the pattern.

The hardest part was getting the hood the proper size because 1) Monster High dolls' heads are a bit on the large side and 2) her ears stick out since she was made from a Create-A-Monster werewolf girl.

In the end, it was worth the effort because now my Dunmer has a cloak to sneak around in while on missions from the Dark Brotherhood.

So thank you Craftster and thanks to all the wonderfully geeky and crafty people who populate this site!  Kiss

PS,
For those wondering, her dress was made by the lovely Amigurl55 and I received as a part of a Monster High themed swap.

EDIT:
It should also be noted that this robe is completely hand sewn. I was paranoid that I'd sew my hand to my project.

107  Steampunk Clock Necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by FreakieGeekie on: June 29, 2013 10:32:05 PM
I've been in love with the Steampunk aesthetic for a few years now and am in the process of making myself a Steampunk time traveler Halloween costume.
I found this cute little clock charm on sale at Hobby Lobby and decided it would make the perfect accessory to add interest to my costume.

The charm originally had a little metal bead and several strands of chain hanging from it. It really didn't suit my tastes so I took it off and replaced it with the key charm.

108  Re: HP Craftalong ~Summer Semester 2013~ *Join at any time!* in Craftalongs by FreakieGeekie on: June 29, 2013 10:29:00 PM
Class: SoAR
House: Slytherin
Project Name: Wire thumb ring
Brief Description: I made a wire ring for my sister because she saw one online and thought it was cute. I don't believe the one I made is quite as pretty as the one she saw but she still likes it. It's made of copper and gold colored wire.

Though the ring is for my sister, that is MY hand.

109  Steampunk Time Traveler Costume in Halloween Costumes by FreakieGeekie on: June 28, 2013 12:09:45 AM
Right now it's only a concept but I'll get there before October!
I know there's an example on the envelope, but I wanted to see it in my choice of colors. I thought  the colors/patterns might look good together, but I wanted opinions so I needed a visual aid. The general consensus is that it will rock. B)
The skirt will be black/white striped with the contrasting part of the skirt's underside done in white. The grey of the shirt and sleeves will actually be black. I just made them grey so they wouldn't blend with the body of the jacket. You can't tell from this because the scanner ate the colors, but there are swirling silver and gold patterns on the jacket. The actual fabric I'm wanting to use has gold Asian dragons and silver tree branches (I'm thinking they're cherry tree branches).

So many freakin' awesome projects! Ohmygodsoepic! **dances around in a circle**
My favorite is KK's though. But I'm biased as I'm a HUGE fan of Mortal Kombat and Scorpion!

Which reminds me, I've had to start over on my own MK work because my pup peed on it. **facepalm**

Research Project Progress: Today I colored the concept drawing for my Halloween costume.
