Prompt: July - Orion Nebula
Team: Fandom
Event: Yarnology
Project Link: [soon]
Project Name: Crocheted baby sandals
While looking for images of nebulae, I found an image of the Bubble Nebula, which is full of lovely shades of purple. I was recently invited to a baby shower by one of my boyfriend's friends who is giving one for his fiancee. It's their first baby and a girl so I thought a soft purple would be the perfect color choice. And to imitate the stars in the nebula, the buttons are glittery (not sure you can see the in the photos).

Please excuse my toes down there! Lol

Made these for my boyfriend's friend whose fiancee is pregnant with their first child:

I made them with a pattern I found on Ravelry. The buttons are clear glittery ones from Walmart.

Haven't been doing too much crafting lately Tongue I've been cleaning house and helping my boyfriend to organize all of our Magic cards. We've got about 1/3 of the cards organized by color, so far.
But I've been doing a bit of cooking:

The mashed potatoes were made using the same recipe as the stewed potatoes: all I did was mash them with a serving fork since I don't have a masher Smiley The recipe can be found here and is based on a recipe my grandma used when I was growing up. I say "based on" because it's pulled from memory and I'm not 100% sure that it's accurate, partly due to my grandma not measuring; I don't either unless I'm following a set recipe.

Project Name: Homemade mashed potatoes
I had NEVER made homemade mashed potatoes before Shocked I used to help my grandma make them all the time when I was growing up but I've never made them on my own. I was always paranoid that I'd make them really lumpy and/or way too dry. But my boyfriend asked if I could make mashed potatoes for dinner today so I sucked it up and made them. I cooked them the same way I prepared the stewed potatoes then mashed them using a serving fork (we don't have a masher and it's how my grandma did it). I was so happy that I was able to get them mostly smooth and that they were delicious! Cheesy

Not sure why the pic uploaded sideways. Maybe because I posted it from my phone? Huh

6  Manly Meal- filet mignon, potatoes and corn (with potato recipe) in Recipes and Cooking Tips by FreakieGeekie on: July 06, 2015 11:46:17 AM
First, I'd like to say that my boyfriend is the one who named it a "manly meal" because "steak and potatoes is as manly as you can get". Roll Eyes
Second, the recipe is adapted from something I used to help my maternal grandmother make when I was a kid. She called it "stewed potatoes" but I'm not sure if that's an accurate description. Huh The recipe can be easily adjusted if you're cooking for more, or less, people.
Also, I don't measure so I'm not sure how accurate the 1/4c water is.

Stewed potatoes for two
You'll need:
Medium-sized skillet
3 potatoes of your favored variety (I used three Russets because it's what we had; it's really delicious with red potatoes)
Butter (I used 1/4 stick; you could also use olive oil instead)
1/4 cup water
Salt & pepper, to taste
Optional:
Garlic powder or fresh minced garlic, to taste*
Onion powder or fresh minced onion, to taste*
*Preferably the fresh but if the powder is all you have, use it!

Wash, peel and cube your potatoes or just wash and cube them, if you prefer to leave the skin.
Melt the butter in your skillet over medium-high heat. After the butter is completely melted, toss in your potatoes and saute them for about five minutes. Add the water then cover, allowing them to cook for five minutes then season to taste and stir. Cover and allow them to cook for another ten minutes. You should now have melt in your mouth delicious potatoes with a creamy "gravy" of sorts. Enjoy!
Note: you could also use this as a start for making homemade mashed potatoes, as my grandmother sometimes did.

Project Name: Manly meal (my bf's idea)
Originally, I was going to submit a doll dress that I'm working on as my Nerd Pride because I consider sewing to be one of my best skills. However, my boyfriend would argue that cooking is my best crafting skill overall  Roll Eyes I've been in the kitchen in some capacity ever since I was about two years old so he's right that it's my best skill because I've been cooking longer than I've been doing any other craft Smiley So I prepared filet mignon and stewed potatoes and cheated a little by heating a can of corn. (Forgive the mini mess: I took the pic at my computer desk, which currently has a bit of crafting clutter on it.)

Such a cute romper, Kookie! I really like the VW bus patch you put on it Cheesy
whatthepuck, Madge is so creepy cute! She looks great Smiley

Last night while binge-watching Supernatural, I decided I needed a break from looking at the black and red yarn for my boyfriend's blanket so I whipped up some earrings and a choker for myself as well as a bracelet that I'll be sending to my niece for Christmas. I have to give a big thank you to alwaysinmyroom, who sent me a the jewelry findings I used in them! Kiss I'm especially grateful for the spacer beads with the loops, without which I couldn't have added the skeleton to my choker or the butterfly to the bracelet, and the earring hooks!

Though I personally find creepy things to be cute, most people would say that skeletons or any sort of bones are creepy.
I decided I needed a new choker but I didn't want it to be just blue glass beads. So I pulled out a box of earring and necklace findings alwaysinmyroom had given me and found a spacer bead that had a little loop on it to which I added the little skeleton. Then I decided I needed matching earrings Cheesy Sorry the pic is slightly blurry but I couldn't get a clear pic. I don't know if it's the lighting or the camera on my phone, which is the only camera I currently have.

These were going to be Zaps since they only took about 15 minutes each (I kept dropping the little rings) but the sun and moon are found pretty high up in the sky and I've seen butterflies fly pretty high, too.
I've always loved anything with a sun and moon on it and figured since I already had out my jewelry bits, I should just go ahead and make myself a pair of sun/moon earrings. Again sorry for the blurriness. I couldn't get a good shot of the earrings but my camera seemed to like the butterfly bracelet Huh The butterfly bracelet is going to be a Christmas gift for my little niece who lives in Michigan. She loves EVERYTHING pink and she likes butterflies.
