12  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / Need a Serger for Knits? on: June 10, 2006 09:08:02 AM
A question from a beginner:  Is a serger necessary for sewing knit fabrics?  I thought I'd try some simple Ts, but don't have a serger and was wondering if a regular machine would cut it.

Thank you!
13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / First Sewing Projects on: June 10, 2006 09:06:21 AM
Hey all,

Just some pics of my first projects, mostly easy skirts Wink.  Next I'm going to tackle a couple of tops and some dresses...

I'm going to post this in the discussion forum, too, but was wondering:  is a serger necessary for sewing knit fabrics?  I thought I'd try some simple Ts, but don't have a serger, and (as you can see) am a beginner.  Thanks!
14  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions / This Looks Like It Should Be Simple (Toddler/Girl's Wrap Dress) on: May 07, 2006 03:44:16 AM
I think this is so cute, and it looks like it could be easy to make.  Does anyone have any ideas or know of any similar patterns that I could modify?  Thank you!

15  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / another embarrassing skirt question on: April 24, 2006 03:17:13 PM
OK, so I'm a complete pattern 'drafting' novice!  I made a simple a line skirt with an elastic waistband out of a cotton blend that had some stretch -- came out great.  Then I used the same pattern to make another cotton skirt, but I forgot that the fabric (100% cotton) didn't have the stretch to it that the first one did.  So, I can't get it over my hips! Undecided  I am thinking that I will have to try putting in a zipper to make it work, but I'm wondering how I would do the calculations for the next time around.  How do I adjust my pattern so that the waist will both fit and get over my hips for a cotton (or other woven material, non-stretchy) basic a-line skirt?  I hope that makes sense!  Thank you.

16  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / skirt hems -- why do i always mess this part up? on: April 09, 2006 04:29:35 AM
hey all,

i've been making some very simple a-line skirts and whenever i get to the hem,  it's longer at the side seams than the rest of the bottom.  i don't know if that's clear...do i need to cut the bottoms on a curve instead of straight?  not sure what i keep doing wrong -- any help would be appreciated.  thank you!
17  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Best craft felt and best adhesive for felt? on: January 28, 2006 12:05:18 PM

I've been fooling around with different things and was wondering what people thought were the best:

1) adhesives for felt (both 100% wool and craft/blends)
2) craft (not all-wool, but not that really thin supercheap kind) felt

thanks! Smiley
