62  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Re:I Want To Make a Bower on: January 23, 2004 05:01:38 PM
i made something similar for my niece for christmas. hearth song catalog was selling them for $89.
so i was planning on buying some netting (which is super cheap at hte fabric store) but then i happened to be in Hot Topics and they have the bed canopy things (undecorated) for just $15!! there were black, red and purple. i got purple for my niece. if i can figure out how to post a pic, i will. it's a hawaiian theme, with leis, seashells, etc.

Jordy, i have been lurking for quite a while, but decided to start posting and i want to tell you THANK YOU!! i used your tutorial as a guideline and have been making purses like a maniac! i was intrigued when i saw your bag on here earlier, then the tutorial was so helpful, i couldn't believe it!

thanks again.

and Lia, i love your vinyl purse! i tried vinyl but it's so slippery it drove me crazy. so i'm sticking with cottons and using interfacing to make it stiffer. i also had success with corduroy.

i haven't really explored this site much, but it does offer free embroidery patterns.

women used to crochet old bread sacks (the plastic bags bread comes in) to make rugs and purses and such. i have a super cute purse which is woven using bread sacks and thread. my mother says the bread sack rugs were great and if they got ratty, you didn't mind so much, because it didn't cost anything except a bit of time spent crocheting.
