1  Re: Curiosity Cabinet Swap Round 2 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by artsycandice on: March 09, 2017 04:04:28 PM
I am sorry for your loss. That creation was so amazing. Sad

I received from Yofi a couple of wonderful curiosities.

Yofi made a "modern urban owl fetish", and a "relic of dubious antiquity".

The head comes off!

It also appears that the head was made with a real bird skull.
And to my partner, you have no idea how perfect the owl piece is for me. I once had a necklace with the linked owl pendant from the seventies that I wore often in high school. The chain broke one day and I lost it. The linked metal owl has since been something that I have loved for nostalgic reasons. It really is perfect for me. Thank you very much. Smiley

Swap Description:

A Cabinet of Curiosities is described by Wikipedia as:
"... encyclopedic collections of objects whose categorical boundaries were, in Renaissance Europe, yet to be defined. Modern terminology would categorize the objects included as belonging to natural history (sometimes faked), geology, ethnography, archaeology, religious or historical relics, works of art (including cabinet paintings), and antiquities."
Read more on that entry here.

I almost forgot to post the brilliant ATCs that Spikefan made for me! These are so wonderful and amazing. I am such a fan. She also included two section of fabric for puppet liner, I didn't take a picture of that though, these little pieces stole the show.  Grin Thank you so much!

7  Re: Christmas Stocking Swap Round 12 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by artsycandice on: December 09, 2016 01:07:43 PM
I received from kmac today, brace yourselves... I am blown away!!

The main attraction, was the first to show itself when I opened the box, the stocking is so fabulous, so amazing, and so me. <3

It is a felted tree! Complete with critters who live within its branches and roots.

There is a little gourd owl on the trunk:

A hummingbird flying around the top:

Three little mice, and a hedgehog in the roots (my four year old found the hedgehog in the bottom of the box after I had already photographed the stocking and removed the mice):

A close-up of the awesome roots:

I emptied the stocking and love it all! Here are the purchased goodies. There was a stack of lovely postcards featuring nude women, I have done my best to photograph them tastefully for public viewing. Cheesy The holy cr@p item will be much appreciated. I have three young kids and will enjoy the bits of adult humor this will provide.  Grin

Now, the other wonders include this rattle gourd painted with dragonflies:

This little gourd art piece:

A felting kit for a little bird:

This felted scarf:

And an attempt to show its length:

And, a piece that did not fit in the stocking, an awesome goddess gourd purse!

The inside:

Everything all together:

We had agreed to a medium. I feel like my partner blew that out of the water! I would have been thrilled with the stocking and critters alone. You outdid yourself for sure and spoiled me. Thank you. I am in love with it all. <3

8  Fur-edged Stocking in Winter Holidays by artsycandice on: December 08, 2016 11:26:50 AM
I made this for kmac in the stocking swap. I am a hap-hazard quilter, the little squares don't line up, and aren't meant to. I lined the stocking and added a furry edge. I ended up having to hand-stitch on the piece of gold lace because I forgot to add it sooner. Oops!

9  Little Stitched Leaves in Completed Projects by artsycandice on: December 08, 2016 11:22:47 AM
I made these for kmac in the stocking swap. I originally had intended to attach these to a ribbon and make a bunting of sorts. But I decided that leaving them as individual pieces would allow my partner to use them however she saw fit. They can be seasonal or year-round decorations, attached to future art, or perhaps even fashioned into jewelry with little alterations. The tie-dyed top piece was made locally while the felt bases I got at a local re-purpose art store.

The backs:

10  Mini Goddess Wall Art in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by artsycandice on: December 08, 2016 11:17:24 AM
I made this for kmac in the stocking swap. The tie-dyed piece I found at a local salvage art shop, made locally. The brownish-greenish fabric bits on the front I got in a shop-the-swap last year, I don't remember who made it. There are random stitches and little bits of frayed scraps. I glued a short dowel to the back to keep the piece hanging flat.
