Oh my goodness, I have the same dress on my hooks in the same color!  It looks fantastic! I'm even more excited about finishing this dress now  Grin

This is the type of project that makes me want to learn to knit.  It looks great, and that's one lucky kid!

Very cool, and every crafty geek should have a stock pile of cheap comics for crafting!

What a lovely idea!

I'll have to think about what thing in nature inspires me the most. Probably something I see as I walk to and from work everyday.
6  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: The Sea Witch - Never underestimate the power of Body Language! on: November 07, 2012 01:07:59 PM
You did a great job with the costume!  I'm not sure that I've seen anyone go as Ursula before, but maybe that's because not everybody is creative enough to create such an awesome costume.  I love that the tentacles can be posed!
7  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: Marge Simpson Crocheted Costume (Homer too!) on: November 07, 2012 01:04:50 PM
I love it!  Just learning/learned the crocodile stitch, but I don't know if I would have thought to use it for the hair!  It works perfectly, and I'm very impressed that you have an entirely crocheted costume!
8  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Batgirl on: November 07, 2012 12:27:40 PM
So, last year I was Supergirl and this year I decided I wanted to be Batgirl.  Being a big geek I wanted a costume that would be fun and great for Comicons.  In fact, Roanoke Valley Comicon was Nov 3 so I knew I would have two opportunities in the same week to wear my Batgirl costume.  Even better, it's not nearly as revealing!

So started with my inspiration

The cape came first and Trousers decided to help me lay out the fabric

There are tiny little paw prints from when he discovered that if he ran and jumped on it the fabric would go sliding.  I threatened to lock him in the bathroom until I was done, but I didn't really have the heart to do it!

And the finished cape:

So then it was time to make the gloves and cowl.  These I decided to crochet.  The "ear" pieces on the cowl are plastic canvas that I stitched into, but I may try to crochet "slip covers" if I do it again.

For the shirt I went to Goodwill and found a black shirt that I added an emblem to.  Harley was particularly helpful during this step.

For the belt I took a long strip of yellow fabric, folded it in half (right sides together) and sewed up one side.  I flipped it right side out, sewed up the end and added some snaps.  It looks a little ugly, but the cape will hide that little detail until I can re-do it.

The leggings and boots I already had.  I would like to, when I have more time, create yellow slip covers for the boots so that they fit with the inspiration a little better.

So, the final product:

And, since I mentioned the Comicon, here's a picture from the con (I did not make either the Joker or the pink Batgirl costumes, but I had to get a picture with the little girl).
