These are so cute -- the little badger is my favorite!

Spring break is here, so I have been having fun crafting with the kids! TOday we painted cookies, and even the 5 year old had a blast




I baked sugar cookies yesterday, then outlined and flooded them with white royal icing last night. They dried into perfect little canvases overnight, then this morning we painted them with food coloring.
I used the wilton gel colors and a small (used for food only) paintbrush to decorate the cookies. If you like to do watercolor painting, this is very similar

Pac man and friends are made with a circle cutter (with a "mouth" cut out from it) and a mini tulip cutter turned upside down.

The kids had lots of fun -- and the best part is, you can just eat your mistakes!

Beautiful! I actually ended up purchasing one of these last year -- I did the math on the supplies (at my local thrifts, anyway) and the time, and realized the price was a bargain : )

Love it! I did this same pattern in yarn and it was very fiddly -- this must have been tough in thread!

Wow, I thought this was amazing BEFORE I clicked through and realized there was a tree underneath! Awesome work!

My daughter wanted to be a chicken (we have pet chickens), but she wanted to have a "baby chick that can grab candy"
Here's what we came up with:


She wanted to match our own chickens (Buff Orpingtons, shown here with another of our girls):



We dyed a white hoodie, feather boa and shorts the right color, then assembled -- the hoodie has a red wattle on top, not visible in the photo. Orange tights and shoe covers made from orange felted wool finished the easy part -- on to the more labor intensive part -- the chick!

For the chick, we started with a TRex toy from Target. He spent some time chasing everyone around the house, and sampling various groceries:


I replaced the inner workings with wire (they were cheap string) and added a clay beak, covering the teeth. I also modeled a wattle out of clay.



I painted the entire piece black, then painted the beak and wattle. His body is black knit with dyed/painted feathers and some chickie like padding to plump him up a bit and hide his dinosaur origins. I sewed a sleeve from black knit fabric, and then attached the sleeve to the hoodie so she could control the chick without anyone seeing her hand



Done -- he was a huge hit at the Halloween parade  -- and trick or treating has been postponed until next week due to Hurricane Sandy, so he still has some candy coming to him!
