1  Re: OTBT - One Tiny Bird Thing - GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by rockingbearranch on: Today at 03:28:14 PM
I received my awesome tiny birds from both of my partners today. First is the chicken hoopla from Pinkmichk. It looks like a Buff Orpington which I have had in my flock. They happen to be from the UK. My girl was named Intern because she was only supposed to be with us temporarily. She had a big personality and was caring to the other birds. She was with us her whole life.

Allons-y made this sweet hummingbird mini canvas. She took the picture on the postcard. It has great detail. I love them!

I received this breezy La Palma card for my Mexican Loteria theme from elliot_anne. It is sitting on the back of the fancy decorated envelope. Thank you!

I always say I should do more envelope art. It is so exciting to get in the mail.

I adore the feather hatted lady and the tree design is beautiful.

I just have one hook at the top and attach them with a pin or whatever to the upholstery cord that hangs down. I had to get these hung up temporarily so they didn't get ruined while I paint and work on the rest of the house.

I love the penguin! I'm starting a Tux project now.

They are both in my Photo Hosting here because I posted them in Nerd Battles.
Here ya go...

I love the cards recently. The kitties are adorable. The Ravenclaw turned out good. I like the highlights on it. The teal background mushroom card almost looks like felt.

Spazzybrat sent this sweet lotus flower. This could be a tattoo I would totally wear.

Jenleahlynn sent this figue study angel with a bonus card called 'persistence'. I love them both! Figure studies are hard with the small format of an ATC. She said she wasn't thrilled with the angel but I think they turned out fine.

This is my April - Nature entry. I made this for the recent OTBT swap. It is free hand from a photo. It is a 2.5 inch hoop.

8  COMPLETED PROJECT - Tea Time in Craftalongs by rockingbearranch on: April 24, 2015 04:23:10 PM
Prompt:  April Challenge - Tea Time
Team: Wordy
Bonus Points: Engineering
Project Name:  Best Ever Awesome Cooked Egg Nog
Project Link: http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=439053.0
Brief Description: This recipe isn't for teatotalers! I made some egg nog for a special treat since I had too many eggs. I don't normally use alcohol but I wasn't sure how long it would sit around so I went with the booze recipe. I went with a cooked recipe for food safety as well. Local eggs are pretty darn safe but I'm using lightly pasteurized milk from an out of state source. It does have a splash of cocoa powder because I was making a brownie at the same time which I do not recommend!

9  Best Ever Awesome Cooked Egg Nog in Recipes and Cooking Tips by rockingbearranch on: April 24, 2015 04:13:20 PM
Here is the method I used for making home made from scratch best ever awesome egg nog!

4 egg yolks
1/3 c sugar
2 1/2 c milk
1 c cream
1/3 c to 2 c rum, add more or less based on your boozy preferences
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg

For best quality, use whole raw or light pasteurized milk. The additional cream is most wanted! Always use free range organic eggs from a small farm. You are looking for solid egg shells and dark orange yolks.

Heat milk, sugar and nutmeg on low. Stirring frequently for at least 5 minutes until mixture thickens slightly.
While cooking milk mix, beat egg yolks until they become light in color and thicken. By hand or a hand mixer on low.
Add to milk mix and stir well. Cook to 160 degrees.
Remove from heat and rest for one hour.
Add cream and rum.
Refrigerate for at least one day before serving. It gets better over time.

The pic is stuck at about 1 inch on my screen so I can barely see a chick in there. It is a cutie though. Polish will lay about 1 less egg per week but they will be big. Polish will not be as broody which may mean a lot more eggs over a lifetime. The Australorp will kick butt. I got 6 big fat eggs per week on organic feed, free range. Soy free organic feed will give you the best egg production. Sprouting or fermenting would be even better. I'd like to learn egg carving since I have a great supply of free craft suppplies.

Polish - Silkie mix - Australorp mix
